Football Drops Conference Opener to New Hampshire

Score: UAlbany 6, New Hampshire 24

Location: Wildcat Stadium in Durham, N.H.

Records: UAlbany (1-4, 0-1 CAA) | New Hampshire (3-2, 1-0 CAA)

Short Story: The University at Albany football team fell to New Hampshire, 24-6, on Saturday in the team's first CAA game of the season.

Key Stat Lines
Head Coach Jared Ambrose: "Tough game. Always tough coming in here to play. UNH is one of those tradition-laden places where it always seems like you're playing more than the 11 guys on the field… We need to play better. There were too many crucial moments where we had self-inflicting wounds. Dropped balls, missed tackles, penalties on touchdown plays."

How it Happened:
  • The Wildcats were able to get on the board first on the team's opening drive, marching 75 yards to take a 7-0 lead.
  • UNH tried to extend its drive on the team's next possession but turned the ball over at midfield after the UAlbany defense held firm on fourth down.
  • The Great Danes attempted a 32-yard field goal early in the second quarter, but the kick went wide right.
  • The Wildcats pushed the lead to 14-0 in the final minute of the first half on a fade to the far end of the end zone, caught by Ryan Blagg.
  • The score moved to 21-0 with 5:24 remaining in the third on a three-yard rush from Wildcat quarterback Matt Vezza, capping a 97-yard drive.
  • The Great Danes were able to drive into Wildcat territory, but a pass intended for Caden Burti on the first play of the fourth quarter was intercepted by UNH's Kelby Hampton.
  • The Wildcats added three to the score with 8:29 left on the clock with a 47-yard field goal, 24-0.
  • UAlbany collected its lone score of the game with 3:08 remaining on a six-yard pass from Colin Parachek to Alex Jreige.

Next: The Great Danes return home next week for the annual battle for the Golden Apple with rival Stony Brook, in addition to Hometown Heroes and Family Weekend. Kickoff from Casey Stadium is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.. Keep up with all of the latest news, highlights, and insights on UAlbany football by following the team on X, Instagram, and Facebook.
