Softball to Host Binghamton for Senior Weekend

LAST WEEK IN REVIEW
  • The Great Danes went 0-4 losing a doubleheader against Syracuse on Wednesday (Apr. 23) and a conference doubleheader against Bryant on Sunday (Apr. 27). 
  • Redshirt-senior Victoria Vilarchao contributed four hits in 11 at bats (.364) to lead the team this past week.
  • Both Vilarchao and junior Sara Anderson batted .500 with three hits against Bryant.
 
GREAT DANE REWIND
  • UAlbany is currently 19-22 on the season with a 9-6 conference record.
  • After four weekends of tournament play, the Great Danes held a 6-12 record. 
  • Splitting a doubleheader at Army (Mar. 19), UAlbany fell in a doubleheader at Binghamton (Mar. 22) to open conference action.
  • The Great Danes answered by going 4-0 including a series sweep over Bryant (Mar. 28-29) for their first home games.
  • In the week of April 1, UAlbany went 4-0 with doubleheader sweeps at CCSU (Apr. 1) and against UMass Lowell (Apr. 4).
  • The Great Danes went 1-3 during the week of April 7 with a loss to Siena (Apr. 10) and a 1-2 series at UMBC (Apr. 12-13).
  • Most recently, UAlbany dropped a midweek doubleheader against Syracuse (Apr. 23) and a conference doubleheader to Bryant (Apr. 27) after sweeping Maine at home (Apr. 19-20).
 
AT THE BATTER'S BOX
  • Senior Caitlyn Frederick is batting a team high .347, placing her for fourth in the conference. She also holds a team-high .417 OBP. On top of that, Frederick leads the team with 26 stolen bases and 27 runs. Her stolen base total is good for first in the conference; she is leading the runner-up by eight SB.
  • Sophomore Taylor Quinn follows batting .319. Combining speed and power, she has scored 22 runs, driven in 21 runs, and holds a .420 slugging percentage. 
  • Freshmen Ava Beal and Kaitlyn Parisi have been key contributors off the bench. Parisi holds a .300 batting average and Beal has added 15 hits for a .288 average.
  • Sophomore Mary Kate Murray leads the team with 26 total RBI. Quinn (21) is in second and Victoria Vilarchao (19) places third. 
  • Junior Deanna Grahek and Vilarchao share the team-high with eight extra-base hits. Grahek has a team-high three home runs with three doubles and two triples while Vilarchao owns a team-high six doubles with two home runs. Quinn (three doubles, conference-high three triples, and one homer) and Frederick (three doubles, two triples, and one homer) are right behind them.
  • Vanessa Meyers holds a .408 OBP with a .250 average due to her team-high 20 walks. She has been efficient on the bases going 6-6 in stolen bases.
  • In conference contests, Mary Kate Murray is batting .447 and has a conference-best 22 RBI. 
  • Grahek is the only Great Dane to start and play in all 41 contests so far.
 
IN THE CIRCLE
  • Three UAlbany pitchers are sharing time in the circle - Kate Powers has 17 starts while freshman Hailey Errichiello has 12 and freshman Hayley Wieczerzak has 11. 
  • Powers leads with nine complete games, including three shutouts, and 101.2 innings pitched. She is currently second-best in the conference with a 2.41 ERA.
  • Hailey Errichiello is close behind with six complete games, including one shutout, and 80.0 innings pitched.
  • Hayley Wieczerzak has pitched 66.0 innings but owns the team-high with 89 strikeouts. She has struck out at least 10 batters in two different games this season.
  • Powers, Errichiello, and senior Dominique Prevette combined for a five-inning no-hitter shutout against Maine (Apr. 20)
 
2025 WEEKLY AWARDS  
ABOUT BINGHAMTON
  • The Bearcats have played to a 31-12 record this season with a 14-2 conference record.
  • Playing in four tournaments, Binghamton went 12-8 including perfect 5-0 weekend at the James Madison invitational (Mar. 7-9).
  • Opening conference play with a doubleheader sweep of UAlbany (Mar. 22), the Bearcats suffered their only two conference losses the following weekend at UMBC (Mar. 29).
  • Binghamton continued its America East schedule with a sweep of Bryant (Apr. 4-5), Maine (Apr. 11), and UMass Lowell (Apr. 18).  
  • Most recently, they got their revenge against UMBC by sweeping the three-game conference matchup (Apr. 26-27) and swept a midweek doubleheader against Colgate (Apr. 29).
  • Elisa Allen leads the Bearcats offense batting .306 with a conference-leading 22 home runs and 55 RBI. 
  • Emma Lawson is getting on base and hitting for power batting .397 and posting a slugging percentage of .679.
  • On the bases, Briana Santos, Lindsey Walter, and Bella Farina all have over 12 stolen bases. Walter leads in runs scored with 35.
  • As a team, the Bearcats are batting a league-best .310. 
  • In the circle, Brianna Roberts has led Binghamton with a 2.08 ERA in 121.0 innings pitched. She has struck out 132 batters which is good for more than one per inning pitched. 
 
SERIES AGAINST THE BEARCATS
  • The Great Danes lead the series, 53-26.
  • UAlbany and Binghamton faced off for a three-game series and a playoff matchup during the 2024 season. The Great Danes took two of three in the regular season and then beat Binghamton, 6-3, in the winner's bracket finale of the conference tournament. 
  • Earlier this season, the Great Danes traveled to Binghamton for a conference doubleheader (Mar. 22). Binghamton took home both wins. 
  • Deanna Grahek slugged a home run and a triple to total three RBI.
  • Mary Kate Murray also added three hits.
 
AROUND THE AMERICA EAST
  • A week before the end of the regular season, Binghamton clinched the number one seed as Regular Season Champions. They currently have a 14-2 league record.
  • UMBC is right behind the Bearcats at 11-7. 
  • UAlbany is at 9-6 to round out the teams with winning league records. 
  • Bryant is just under .500 with an 8-9 record after two wins against UAlbany. 
  • UMass Lowell is close behind with a 6-11 record. 
  • Maine rounds out the conference at 2-15 after winning two games against UMass Lowell.
