Â
Plethora of Returners
Heading into last season only one starting position player returned. This year the Great
Danes are returning starters at every position but third base. With at least one year of
experience under everybody's belts, the Danes look to take a big step forward on
offense and defense. Look forÂ
Levi McAllister,Â
John Vitucci andÂ
Cooper Loyal to
improve upon successful campaigns and to help lead the Danes in 2025. Also, after a
heartbreaking injury at UMass Lowell in the playoffs last year,Â
Luke Myers is returning to
play second base where he brings his stellar defense and will be a key contributor to the
Danes' lineup.
Â
Last Time OutÂ
- The Great Danes have started the 2025 campaign 3-4 after taking three games from Longwood last weekend, securing their first series win of the year.
- As a team, the Great Danes hold a .285 batting average, a .398 OB%, and a .413 SLG%. On the mound, the pitching staff holds a 10.58 ERA.
- On Friday (2/28) Junior Dylan Banner threw 5.1 innings striking out five in a UAlbany win over Longwood.
- On Saturday (3/1) Junior Ryan Pittz totaled 4.2 innings striking out five in another UAlbany win.
- Senior Ryan Ferremi added three extra base hits, including a home run, while compiling a total of 8 hits on the weekend.
- Freshman Logan Morris added six hits last weekend including a double. Morris also drove in four runs.
Â
Scouting Hofstra
- The Pride have started the year 3-7.
- They opened their season against #2 Tennessee (2/14-16), and also played #23 Kentucky (2/28 – 3/2).
- Hofstra is led offensively by Dylan Palmer who is batting .353 over nine games.Â
- Tyler Cox, Luke Masiuk, and Sean Lane are tied for the team lead in home runs with one.
- On the bump, Grady Lacourciere has ten strikeouts in ten innings pitched out of the bullpen. Jackson Baur has made three starts, and leads the Pride with 13.2 innings pitched.Â
CaptainsÂ
Dylan Banner,Â
Ryan Ferremi andÂ
Matthew Mariano will serve as captains for the Great Danes during the 2025 season. Banner, a junior right-handed pitcher throughout his career, holds a career ERA of 4.31 over 64.2 innings. Prior to the season, Banner was named a Preseason All-Conference selection. Ferremi, a senior infielder has a career average of .256 with 55 hits and 10 doubles. Mariano, a Redshirt Junior right-handed pitcher from Clifton Park, N.Y., has a career 7.80 ERA through 25 appearances.Â
Â
Injection of Youth to the Pitching StaffÂ
UAlbany Baseball is set for a fresh start in 2025, welcoming 11 freshmen to the roster, including seven new pitchers. This influx of arms comes in response to the departure of seven pitchers from the 2024 season, who combined for 212 innings pitched. The team will also benefit from the return ofÂ
Aidan Gelbsman andÂ
Thomas Quinn, both of whom missed last season due to injury. With a mix of young talent and experienced arms returning, the Great Danes are looking to rebuild their pitching staff and make a strong impact this year.Â
Â
