Three Double-Digit Scorers Lead Women’s Basketball to Victory

SHORT STORY: A dominant first quarter powered the UAlbany women's basketball team to a double-digit win over Boston, Saturday afternoon. 
 
KEY STATS
  • Three Great Danes tabbed double-digit points - Delanie Hill (18), Amaya Stewart (12), and Gabriela Falcão (10).
  • Hill also recorded team highs in assists (six) and steals (two).
  • Falcão tallied two of UAlbany's three blocks, the third coming from Stewart. 
  • Júlia Palomo Vicente led the team in rebounds with eight.
  • As a team, the Great Danes shot 41.8% in the paint and 36.8% from beyond the arc. 
  • In 40 minutes of action, UAlbany tallied 19 assists and four turnovers for a 4.75 assist/turnover ratio.
  • UAlbany and Boston were exactly even off the boards, each team with nine offensive rebounds and 23 defensive rebounds for 32 total. 
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Terriers opened scoring just over a minute into the game. UAlbany responded with a 10-point run to give them control of the game not even five minutes into the contest.
  • Delanie Hill and Lara Langermann added back-to-back three-pointers to give UAlbany a 16-4 advantage.
  • In the final 3:08 of the first quarter, the Purple and Gold outscored Boston University, 6-4, to give them a 22-8 lead.
  • Hill opened second-quarter scoring with the first three points of an eight-point run that put the Great Danes ahead, 30-8, with 5:36 left on the clock. 
  • The Terriers found their momentum by putting up 14 unanswered points to close the scoring gap before heading into halftime down, 30-22. 
  • Boston came out of the break and closed what proved to be a 16-point scoring run to get to a six-point difference, the closest they would be for the remainder of the contest.
  • UAlbany gradually regained its defensive strength and powered to a 47-29 advantage after holding the Terriers scoreless for nearly three minutes at the end of the third.
  • In the first five minutes of the final quarter both teams traded points back and forth, with the Great Danes just outscoring BU, 13-10, to put them ahead, 60-39. 
  • UAlbany held on to its double-digit lead as Boston outscored the Great Danes, 7-2, in the final four minutes to win the game, 62-46.
 
NEXT: The Great Danes will head on the road to face Vanderbilt on Thursday (Dec. 18).
