SHORT STORY: The Great Danes held Vanderbilt, a team averaging over 86 points per game, to just 64 points in a contest at Memorial Gymnasium, Thursday evening.
 
KEY STATS
  • Sophomore Delanie Hill led the team with 15 points despite seeing only half of the game due to injury. Junior Lara Langermann followed with 10 points
  • Combined, Hill and Langermann scored nearly three quarters of the team's points. All of Langermann's points came in the first half and all, except two, of Hill's came in the second half.
  • Senior Gabriela Falcão tallied a team-high seven rebounds, including four offensive. 
  • As a team, the Great Danes outrebounded Vanderbilt, 38-34, including a 14-9 advantage in offensive rebounds.
  • The UAlbany defense held the Commodores to their lowest score of the season. Prior to today, Vanderbilt had scored no less than 74 points with only one game below 80 points scored. 
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Gabriela Falcão scored the first points of the game about a minute in.
  • Between trading points, the Commodores did not earn the lead until 4:35 on the first-quarter clock. A 10-point scoring run put them up, 12-4, with about three and a half minutes remaining in the quarter.
  • Lara Langermann made a three-pointer before the close of the quarter while the Great Dane defense held Vanderbilt to just 14 points in the first.
  • The Commodores proved relentless in the start of the second quarter allowing only one UAlbany point in over five minutes of action.
  • Langermann broke up the 7-1 scoring run with her second three-pointer of the night at 4:37.
  • The Great Danes flipped the script and held a 12-9 advantage through the second half of the second quarter with two three-pointers from Langermann. Delanie Hill closed the first half going end to end in just 9.5 seconds.
  • Martina Borrellas hit a layup four minutes into the third quarter to end a 12-point scoring run from Vanderbilt.
  • Hill scored a total of nine points in the third quarter alone as the Commodores earned a 50-31 advantage with 10 minutes remaining.
  • Vanderbilt allowed just four UAlbany points, all from Hill, in the fourth quarter to take the 64-35 win.
 
NEXT: The Great Danes will return home to host Hofstra on Sunday (Dec. 21) for their final non-conference contest.
