SHORT STORY: UAlbany scored 27 points in the final quarter but it was not enough and the Orange won its home contest, Friday night.
KEY STATS
- Sophomore Delanie Hill led the team with 17 points, all of which were scored in the fourth quarter.
- Sophomore Martina Borrellas followed with 15 points, including all eight Great Dane points in the third quarter. She also tabbed the team-high nine rebounds.
- Júlia Palomo Vicente led in assists (six) and steals (two).
- Borrellas and freshman Amaya Stewart logged UAlbany's two blocks of the game.
- In the final quarter, the Great Danes bounced back with an .800 field goal percentage and a .600 three-point percentage.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Gabriela Falcão opened the scoring for both teams with a field goal almost a minute and a half into the game.
- Syracuse netted their first point of the game at 6:56 from a free throw. The Great Danes held the Orange without a field goal until 6:39.
- Amaya Stewart tied the game, 4-4, with just over six minutes left in the quarter.
- Syracuse proceeded to go on a 12-point run over the final six minutes to go into the second quarter up 16-4.
- Stewart recorded the first point of the second quarter after sinking a free throw.
- Over the following four minutes the Orange outscored the Great Danes, 7-5, making the overall score 23-10 in their favor.
- Although UAlbany held Syracuse to just 11 points in the second quarter, the Orange entered halftime with a 17-point lead.
- Martina Borrellas scored three layups in three minutes, including the first points of the third, to make it 35-16 at 6:50.
- Syracuse entered the final quarter with a 52-18 advantage after Borrellas got the final say with a bucket so close to the final buzzer the officials had to review it.
- In the first four minutes of the fourth quarter both teams went back and forth, each scoring nine points.
- From 5:42 to 2:20, the Great Danes went on a 15-point run to cut Syracuse's 33-point lead to an 18-point lead.
- In the last two minutes of the game both teams put up a matching three points, bringing the final score to 64-45 in favor of the Orange.
