Stewart Powers to 21 as Women's Basketball Takes Down Dartmouth

SHORT STORY: Freshman Amaya Stewart dropped 21 points and 11 rebounds to lead the Great Danes to a 24-point victory over Dartmouth, Monday night.
 
KEY STATS
  • Amaya Stewart led the Great Danes with 21 points and 11 rebounds.
  • Sophomore Martina Borrellas tallied seven rebounds with four assists, two steals, and the only UAlbany block of the game.
  • Junior Lara Langermann scored 12 and went 4-5 from beyond the arc.
  • Sophomore Delanie Hill led the squad with seven assists and tied for the team lead with three steals.
  • As a team, UAlbany outshot Dartmouth from three, going 7-16 (43.8%) compared to 3-14 (21.4%).
  • The Great Danes totaled 32 rebounds, including 11 offensive boards, with 18 assists as a team.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Dartmouth started the game strong, jumping out to a 7-0 lead with 7:24 left in the first.
  • Amaya Stewart got UAlbany on the board with a layup which started what proved to be a 19-4 run that lasted the rest of the first.
  • Within the scoring run, three Great Danes made back-to-back three-point plays - an "and-one" play from Stewart and two three-pointers from Delanie Hill and Júlia Palomo Vicente.
  • Lara Langermann and Palomo Vicente led the way for UAlbany in the first with five points each.
  • The second quarter started as a defensive stalemate with only six total points scored in the first five minutes.
  • The pace picked up as the first half came to a close as UAlbany outscored the Big Green, 11-8, to head into halftime with a 34-21 advantage. 
  • Both teams traded points to start the third with each side scoring six through four minutes.
  • About halfway through the third quarter, the Great Danes went on a 13-2 run, highlighted by eight points from Stewart, that lasted the rest of the quarter and extended the lead to 53-39 heading into the fourth.
  • Dartmouth went on a 10-2 run to start the fourth, but UAlbany countered with a 10-2 run of its own to close out the game and walk away with a 65-41 win. 
 
NEXT: UAlbany will head to Rhode Island to face the Rams on Saturday (Nov. 15) evening.
