SHORT STORY: Freshman Jette Kurz scored a career-high four goals to back a five-goal victory over Bryant in the America East Quarterfinal matchup, Sunday afternoon.

COACH PHIL SYKES: "Fantastic effort today in our America East Quarterfinal. I think this year has been very interesting with the America East teams because it seems like anybody can beat anybody so we were quite respectful of Bryant. Yhey are a good team - fast and athletic. I loved how we played today. Our energy, our defensive focus initially, and then counter-attacking was really good. I am super proud of the girls. I think we have some nice momentum going into Tuesday's game against New Hampshire."

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Jette Kurz scored first for UAlbany in the 13th minute of the contest. In the game's first penalty corner, Mara Küskes inserted the ball to a stick-stop by Jenna Zunic. Kurz took the direct shot from the top to send the ball straight into the goal.
  • After a scoreless second quarter, the score remained 1-0 at halftime.
  • The Great Danes fired up the scoring in the second half with three goals in the third quarter and two in the fourth.
  • Kurz added two goals in a two-minute span within the first five minutes of the second half. Each goal was scored close to the end line. For the first, she brought the ball into the circle and continued to dribble down the end line before passing to Sophia Schoonmaker. Schoonmaker one-touched the ball back to Kurz who took the opportunity to shoot and score. For the second, she brought the ball into the circle near the top of the circle, dribbled around defenders, and took the shot just before going out of bounds.
  • About four minutes after Kurz' hat trick was complete, Emma Staron redirected the ball in the air to score a goal with 6:09 on the third-quarter clock. Staron's redirection came off a cross from Tessa Overgoor.
  • From assist to goal, Overgoor added the Great Danes' fifth goal in the fourth quarter unassisted. The sophomore received a pass at the 25-yard line and brought it into the circle where she drove the ball into the net from about 12 yards away.
  • Kurz scored UAlbany sixth and final goal of the contest just two minutes later. Dribbling the ball in from the sideline, she dodged three defenders before taking the reverse shot for the score.
  • Bryant got the final say with just over three minutes left in the goal. A long pass from close to the 50-yard line made it into the circle for a tip and a goal.

NEXT: The Great Danes are set to continue the postseason at the second-seeded New Hampshire on Tuesday, November 4.
