Volleyball Sweeps New Hampshire to Extend Winning Streak

LOCATION: PE Gym – Albany, N.Y.

SCORE: UAlbany 3, New Hampshire 0 (25-22, 25-21, 25-21)

RECORD: UAlbany 11-9, 4-2 America East | New Hampshire 8-11, 2-4 America East

SHORT STORY: UAlbany volleyball returned home and made a statement with a 3-0 sweep of New Hampshire on Friday night.

COACH JOSH PICKARD: "I'm very proud of the team and how they played. We really pressured our opponents from the service line. Offensively we spread the ball and had a balanced attack which opened up the net."

KEY STATS

  • Graduate opposite Kendall Harris led UAlbany with 11 kills on .400 hitting, adding 10 digs and 2 blocks.

  • Graduate outside hitter Shynelle Woroniuk recorded 12 kills, 6 digs, and 2 aces.

  • Redshirt-junior middle blocker Gabriella Karman hit .333 with 10 kills and 3 blocks.

  • Senior middle blocker Tori Wilson added 6 kills on .500 hitting and 1 block.

  • Senior outside hitter Anna Myhal contributed 6 kills, 11 digs, and 2 aces.

  • Graduate setter Maria Olga Siapani tallied 37 assists, 11 digs, and 1 ace.

  • Sophomore defensive specialist Kasia Barletta served 3 aces and collected 8 digs.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • UAlbany jumped out to a quick lead in the opening set behind early kills from Kendall Harris and Gabriella Karman. 

  • After a late Wildcat rally tied the score, Kasia Barletta's serving and a Karman kill closed out the set 25-22.

  • The Great Danes continued to control the second frame with strong play at the net.

  • Anna Myhal served an ace to open the set, and Harris and Karman combined for four kills during a mid-set surge that pushed UAlbany ahead 18-13. 

  • Maria Olga Siapani's steady setting helped seal another 25-21 win.

  • In the third, UAlbany never trailed after an early 5-2 start. 

  • Shynelle Woroniuk found her rhythm from the outside, Harris added a pair of crucial kills, and Barletta's final ace capped off the sweep at 25-21.
