SHORT STORY: Mara Küskes led the team with five shots in a three-goal decision against New Hampshire, Friday afternoon.

COACH PHIL SYKES: "Tough one today. We played a very good UNH team - I thought they played quite well. I don't think we've lost to them in several years so you can tell they were up for this game. We know we can play with them; we just need to bring our 'A game' when it comes to the America East Tournament and hopefully we can turn things around there."

KEY STATS
  • Junior Mara Küskes led the team with five shots, including two shots that got past the goalie and were saved by a defender.
  • Sophomore Tessa Overgoor added four shots, including two on goal.
  • Fifth year goalie Emma Peeters recorded five saves.
  • As a team, UAlbany outshot New Hampshire, 17-15, while landing 10 on goal compared to the Wildcats' eight.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • New Hampshire got the scoring started with a goal less than two minutes into the game to make it 1-0 early.
  • With 2:34 left in the second, Mara Küskes took a shot on a corner that resulted in a defensive save by a  Wildcat. That corner was the first of six that UAlbany took in the final four minutes of the quarter.
  • The Wildcats extended their lead with a goal in the final minute of the half to make it 2-0.
  • The Great Danes fired seven shots in the third quarter, including one on a corner as time expired, but could not score and the UNH lead remained at 2-0.
  • With eight minutes to go in the game, New Hampshire had two players out with cards and UAlbany pulled the goalie to play with three additional field players.
  • Despite the added pressure and continuous Great Dane possession for about six minutes of action, New Hampshire pushed back and scored an empty net goal to make it a 3-0 game.
  • Both teams battled in the final two minutes after Peeters came back in the game, but UAlbany was unable to score and the Wildcats went home with the shutout victory.

NEXT: The Great Danes will host their final home game of the regular season - Senior Day - on Sunday, October 26. They will face Stonehill with a 12 pm start time.
