NCAA Regionals Bound, Women’s Golf Enters Postseason

ALBANY, N.Y. - The University at Albany's women's golf team is set to compete in the Auburn Regional of the NCAA Tournament in Auburn, Ala. 

The NCAA Auburn Regional will take place at the Auburn University Club on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday (May 6-8). The Great Danes will compete against first-seeded South Carolina, Auburn, Oregon, Georgia, North Carolina, Michigan, Houston, Tulsa, Miami, Kennesaw State, and ETSU. The course will feature a total of three rounds in the three-day event with 18 holes each day.

MAAC CHAMPIONS

  • For the first time since 2019, the Great Danes brought home the MAAC championship trophy. Marking the fourth conference championship in Division I program history, all of which have been in the past decade
  • After snagging the lead on day two, the squad never looked back and closed the championship with a three-stroke lead over the second-place tie between Quinnipiac and Fairfield. 
  • Lucia Esteban led the squad finishing in a tie for second place. The sophomore didn't leave the top 3 of the leaderboard the entire competition. 
  • Katelin Richards and Malene Clausen rounded out the top three for the Great Danes boasting a tie for 4th place and a solo 6th place finish respectively. The senior duo ranked in the top 10 of the leaderboard throughout all three days. 
  • Esteban, Richards, and Clausen all received All-MAAC team honors, recognizing their top ten finishes. 
  • Head Coach Colleen Cashman was honored as the MAAC Coach of the Year. 
SPRING INTO ACTION
  • Kicking off the spring season at the Columbia Classic (Feb. 10-12), Mariel Tee led the squad with a 34th-place finish. The senior golfed a huge -2 score on day two while tallying six birdies (nine total for the tournament). 
  • Senior Malene Clausen had the best score through day one (+1), finishing in 52nd place overall. The team closed out the three-day tournament with a 14th-place finish. 
  • Sophomore Lucia Esteban had the highest finish at the huntsville.org Intercollegiate (Mar. 2-4) securing a tie for 16th place. She also logged the first eagle of the season for the Great Danes. 
  • Senior Katelin Richards led the team in birdies (6) while finishing in a tie for 26th-place. The team closed out the three-day tournament with a 10th-place finish boasting a 309 and 310 score for rounds one and three, respectively. 
  • This year's spring break trip brought the squad to Panama City, Fla. for the Lady Bison Bay Point Classic (Mar. 22-24). Clausen led the squad with a 39th-place finish while also recording the best single-round score among the Great Danes (75) on day two. 
  • Competing as individuals, junior Claudia Blöchliger and freshman Nicole Criscone secured a tie for 52nd and a 68th-place finish, respectively. 
  • New Jersey bound, the Great Danes competed in the Rutgers Invitational on April 6-7. Malene Clausen led the squad with a 3rd-place finish, boasting a total score of just six over par. The senior recorded six birdies in the second round alone, finishing three under par. 
  • Behind a huge second round (+11) the squad finished in second place as a team. The team also recorded the most birdies throughout the entire competition (38).
FALL REWIND
  • UAlbany competed at five events in the fall - the Crosstown Challenge (Sept. 10), the Princeton Invitational (Sept. 16-17), the Red Bandanna Intercollegiate (Sept. 25-26), the Hawk Invitational (Oct. 13-14), and the Lehigh Invitational (Oct. 23-24). 
  • Kicking off the fall season, senior Malene Clausen led the team with a tie for first place at Wolfert's Roost. Putting four golfers in the top five, junior Claudia Blöchliger finished third with seniors Mariel Tee and Katelin Richards tied for fourth.
  • Coming together as a team, UAlbany won the Crosstown Challenge against Siena by a 12-stroke margin. 
  • Tee boasted the best score among the team each round in Princeton. On her way to finishing second on the team, Richards tied with Tee in the second round (74) while Clausen rounded out the top three scorers. 
  • At the Springdale Golf Club, the Great Danes combined for a ninth-place finish as a team with Tee tying for 17th place individually. 
  • A rain-filled Red Bandanna Intercollegiate resulted in an 11th-place team finish. Clausen claimed the highest individual finish (23rd) including an even par in the first round. 
  • Richards jumped 12 spots in the final round while Tee stayed consistent throughout (77-79-79) despite the heavy rain.
  • Two rounds of competition at the Hawk Invitational ended with a first-place team finish as well as the Great Danes snagging four of the top five scores.
  • Clausen tallied her third team-leading performance with the individual first-place crown. Going -4 in the first round, she was six strokes ahead of Tee and Aungsuseewong, the golfers tied for second, after 18 holes.
  • Tee tied for second place overall finishing with a +7 score. Richards and Aungsuseewong both tied for fourth place with a stroke count of 155. 
  • The team's last outing of the fall resulted in a second-place finish at the Lehigh Invitational while also claiming the individual title. Tee logged a +3 score across the two rounds to secure her first-place win. 
  • Blöchliger improved by six strokes in the second round giving her the lowest Great Dane score of the day on her way to a top 10 finish.
  • Freshman Nicole Criscone made her collegiate debut at the Crosstown Challenge to help UAlbany win. Competing individually at Princeton, she totaled five birdies in the three-round competition.
