Leading the Pack
- Starting every game this season, Will Binder has been a constant performer with a .308 batting average, a .918 OPS, and 11 multi-hit games.
- In addition to patrolling center field, Luke Filippi has 32 hits on the season.
- Three Great Danes have hit three home runs on the year – Ryan Ferremi, Jared Toby, and Binder.
- Connor Eisenmann and Michael DiMartino lead the pitching staff with 30 strikeouts.
- The pitching staff has amassed a 9.94 ERA over 612.2 innings, with an opposing batting average of .327.
Season Review
- UAlbany owns a 5-28 record while going 3-11 in conference play.
- Opening their season against #9 Tennessee (2.23-25), the Great Danes narrowly fell 5-8 in game one before being defeated 6-21 and 0-12.
- Continuing their road stretch, UAlbany was swept in a three-game series by George Washington (3.3-3) and lost four contests to Purdue (3.9-10)
- After falling to Army, the Great Danes were swept in a three-game series at Georgetown (3.15-17).
- Opening conference play, UAlbany split a doubleheader against UMass Lowell (2.22) and then took two games in a three-game set against Maine (3.30-31).
- The Great Danes defeated Siena (4.2), 17-12, in a crosstown matchup, before being swept by Bryant (4.6-7) and Marist (4.9) in a doubleheader.
- After being swept by UMBC (4.12-14), UAlbany bounced back to defeat CCSU (4.16).
- Most recently, the Great Danes were swept at Binghamton (4.19-21) in a three-game series and lost to Le Moyne (4.23) in a midweek matchup.
- Will Binder owns a team-high 36 hits with 14 extra-base hits, including 10 doubles, a triple, and three home runs.
- Luke Filippi and Ryan Ferremi have tallied a team-best 18 RBIs.
- Connor Eisenmann leads all qualified pitchers with a 10.12 ERA through 34.2 innings pitched.
Vs. Cancer
The baseball team has joined with the Vs. Cancer program to defeat childhood brain cancer. They will be holding their annual Vs. Cancer game on Friday, May 3rd. Donations will fund family support and child life programs along with lifesaving pediatric brain cancer research. Heating Up
- Against CCSU, Will Binder went three for three with a home run, an RBI, and two runs scored.
- Three Great Danes tallied three RBIs last week – Anthony Scarabino, John Vitucci, and Luke Myers.
- Across five innings last week, Michael DiMartino allowed only one earned run while striking out six.
- The UAlbany bullpen didn't allow a run through the first two games of last weekend's series at Binghamton while striking out five.
- Cam Fuer pitched a scoreless inning in relief against Le Moyne and didn't allow a hit.
Scouting NJIT
The Highlanders have gone 16-20 this season with a 6-5 conference record.
- Beginning their season on the road, NJIT was swept at Maimi (2.16-17) before earning their first win of the year in their series at Elon (2.23-25).
- Winning one contest in their four-game set at VMI (3.1-3), the Highlanders claimed three games in their series at Cal Bakersfield (3.8-10) before falling to Seton Hall (3.12) in a midweek matchup.
- Opening conference play at Binghamton (3.15-17), NJIT spoilt the sweep by winning game three of the series before falling again to Seton Hall (3.20).
- After winning twice at Fairfield (3.22-24) and being defeated by Rutgers, the Highlanders returned home to defeat UMass Lowell (3.29-31) twice.
- Splitting a doubleheader at Maine (4.7) and losing twice to Quinnipiac (4.12-14), NJIT bounced back to defeat Saint Peter's (4.17).
- Most recently, the Highlanders defeated UMBC (4.19-21) twice in their weekend series and defeated Hofstra (4.23).
- Cade Ladehoff has been a force at the plate with a team-best .314 batting average, 44 RBIs, and nine home runs.
- Albert Choi has been dangerous on the base paths, tallying 12 steals and scoring 33 runs.
- Anchoring the Highlander rotation, Aidan Kidd has pitched to a 4.14 ERA across 50 innings.
Leading the League
The Great Danes have leaders in five of the hitting categories, two of the pitching categories, and three of the fielding categories.
2024 Captains
Will Binder,
Connor Eisenmann, and
Cregg Scherrer will serve as the captains for the Great Danes during the 2024 season. Binder enters his third season with UAlbany after starting his collegiate career at LaSalle. Since joining the Great Danes, he has started in 89 games and has a .325 batting average. Eisenmann returns to UAlbany for his fourth season. Through 37 appearances for the Great Danes, he has recorded a 5.93 ERA with 121 strikeouts and a .254 batting average against. Scherrer is a redshirt senior from Skaneateles, N.Y., entering his fifth season with the team. Appearing in 44 games, including 34 starts, Scherrer has struck out 195 batters and owns a 5.73 ERA.
2024 America East Preseason Poll
- UAlbany was picked to finish seventh in the 2024 America East Preseason Poll, earning eight points.
- The Bearcats were picked to finish first in the conference with 35 points, including five first-place votes.
- Maine, the defending champions, followed closely behind with 31 points and two first-place votes.
- UMBC (26) placed third, NJIT (19) fourth, and Bryant (18) fifth.
- UMass Lowell (10) and UAlbany rounded out the poll.
America East Standings
Bryant sits on top of the conference table being the only team with double-digit wins with 13. UMBC sits in second with a 7-5 conference record with NJIT trailing close behind having gone 6-5. UMass Lowell is fourth in the conference with a .500 record. Binghamton has won six contests in 15 opportunities. Maine and UAlbany round out the conference with the Black Bears holding a one-win advantage over the Great Danes.
