SHORT STORY: The Great Danes improved their game throughout each set but it was the host, New Hampshire, taking the victory, Friday evening.
COACH JOSH PICKARD: "It was a tough match on the road tonight. We were up against a team that doesn't make a lot of mistakes and put the pressure on us all night. We battled in the third but weren't able to sustain enough pressure against their block to get going."
KEY STATS
- Redshirt-junior Shynelle Woroniuk led with 10 kills while senior Elisavet Papageorgiou followed with eight kills.
- Junior Tori Wilson earned a team-high .333 hitting percentage. The middle blocker also totaled a team-high three blocks.
- With a defense-minded team against New Hampshire, seven different players tallied at least six digs. Freshman Kasia Barletta led with nine digs.
- Senior Zosia Szczotkiewicz played in two sets as the setter for 19 assists.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The match started back and forth but an 8-1 scoring run gave the Wildcats a 13-5 advantage.
- The Great Danes held strong but a second scoring run from New Hampshire ended the set, 25-13, in their favor.
- UNH began the second set with an early scoring for a 7-2 lead.
- Gradually working on the scoring gap, UAlbany put it within two points, 17-15, but the Wildcats allowed just two more Great Dane points and earned the second-set win, 25-17.
- UAlbany held the advantage in the beginning of the third set, 6-3.
- New Hampshire tied the score at seven but the Great Danes answered with six consecutive points, including an ace from Kasia Barletta and two kills from Elisavet Papageorgiou.
- Down seven points, the Wildcats came back to tie the score at 18.
- The set closed with back-and-forth action and went into extra points. UNH earned the win, 28-26, to earn the match victory, 3-0.
NEXT: The Great Danes will head to Long Island to play their final non-conference game before hosting NJIT for Senior Night on Friday (Nov. 8).
