SHORT STORY: Down 2-0, the Great Danes worked together to tie the score and eventually win in overtime at New Hampshire, Friday afternoon.

COACH PHIL SYKES: "It was a great battle today. It wasn't looking good when we went down 2-0 in the third period. I am so proud of our team for how they battled back and kept their composure. UNH is a tough team and we are relieved to get through that game."

KEY STATS
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • After a scoreless first quarter, the Wildcats were the first on the board with less than a minute remaining in the first half.
  • Continuing to dominate with possession, New Hampshire extended their lead with a second goal in the third quarter.
  • About two minutes later, the Great Danes got on the board with a goal from Mara Küskes. Tipping a shot from Alison Smisdom, this goal proved to provide the change in energy UAlbany needed.
  • Allowing zero shots from UNH in the fourth, the Great Danes' offense tied the game with just over five minutes remaining in regulation.
  • Scoring during a penalty corner for the second time in the contest, UAlbany's Eva Jenniskens tied the game. Receiving a pass to the corner of the goal from Floor de Ruiter, Jenniskens changed the direction of the ball to send it into the boards.
  • Just two shots into the overtime period, the Great Danes won the game.
  • With a diving shot on net, de Ruiter scored the game-winning goal. Receiving a pass from Smisdom, de Ruiter dodged a defender and dove for the ball between two defensive sticks to send it past the goalie for the win.

NEXT: The Great Danes will continue their weekend in New England on Sunday as they visit #9 Boston College.
