BOSTON - The University at Albany field hockey's Mara Küskes was named the America East Rookie of the Week, announced Tuesday.
 
A native of Mönchengladbach, Germany, Küskes helped the Great Danes to a 2-0 weekend that put them back in the top 20 of the nation. A member of the penalty corner unit, she assisted three goals, including the game-winning goal in overtime against California (Sept. 22).
 
Totaling six on the season, Küskes leads the team in assists.
 
This award marks the first of Küskes' career and the team's second of the season. Alison Smisdom's Defensive Player of the Week (Sept. 12) was the team's first.
 
UAlbany returns to action on Friday (Sept. 29) with a home game against Maine.
