HOW IT HAPPENED
  • After a scoreless first quarter, the teams combined for three total goals in the second.
  • UAlbany opened the scoring during a penalty corner when a direct shot from Quinty Reumer at the top of the circle made it past the goalie and into the net. Jette Kurz and Mara Küskes assisted the first goal.
  • Just over two minutes later, the Great Danes once again scored during a corner. Receiving a pass from the top, Kurz dodged a defender to get closer to the goal and sent the ball into the net at the near corner.
  • New Hampshire made it a one-goal game, 2-1, before the game headed into halftime.
  • Within one minute of action, both teams advanced their total by one during the third quarter.
  • In the 40th minute, UAlbany earned a penalty corner and took advantage. Instead of taking a shot on goal, Pilar Lorenzini sent the ball to Küskes, who was sitting just at the corner of the goal, to tip the ball into the net for the Great Dane goal.
  • Just 40 seconds later, the Wildcats answered to make it a 3-2 game.
  • The UAlbany defense faced five shots and nine corners in New Hampshire's favor during the fourth quarter before the final penalty corner led to a Wildcat goal, to tie the game, with 0:00 on the clock and 11 field players on the field.
  • The teams played an overtime period but neither scored, despite a 3-1 advantage in shots for UAlbany, as the game headed into shootouts.
  • Both teams scored on their first attempt with Kurz kicking off the shootouts for UAlbany.
  • Merle Vaandrager stopped the Wildcats' second attempt before Lorenzini scored to give the Great Danes an edge.
  • Both third attempts were successful, with Küskes scoring for UAlbany.
  • Vaandrager wouldn't let the fourth UNH player get her shot off and ran out the time to give the Great Danes the shootout victory.
