LAST WEEK IN REVIEW
  • The Great Danes opened the season against UMass on Friday, August 25.
  • Being down 2-0, the Great Danes scored two goals in the second half, including one with less than two minutes on the clock. The Minutewomen took the double overtime contest with a goal two minutes into the second overtime period.
  • On Sunday, August 27, UAlbany welcomed Stonehill. Seven different Great Danes contributed to the 5-0 shutout victory.
  • Sophomore Sophia Schoonmaker led with two goals while junior Blanca Orsola worked on three different goals - one goal and two assists. 
 
GREAT DANE REWIND
  • UAlbany returns to action after a historic 2022 season that saw the Great Danes' second program appearance in the NCAA Tournament Second Round.
  • The Purple and Gold ended the regular season with five straight wins after losing just four contests in a 17-game regular season.
  • Earning a bye with the second seed in the America East Tournament, the Great Danes defeated New Hampshire in the semifinal before taking down Stanford in shootouts for the league title.
  • Ranked 16th in the nation, UAlbany headed to fourth-seed Michigan for the NCAA First Round contest. Down by one after a Wolverines' goal in the first half, the Great Danes tied the score with less than three minutes on the game clock. UAlbany took the overtime upset after Sophia Schoonmaker scored the game-winning goal with 55 seconds left in the first overtime period.

ABOUT #7 IOWA
  • The Hawkeyes opened the season with two wins at the B10/ACC Challenge hosted by North Carolina.
  • Playing #12 Wake Forest first (Aug. 25), Iowa earned a 4-0 victory before going to overtime for a 3-2 decision over #1 UNC on August 27.
  • Most recently, the Hawkeyes tallied a 3-0 shutout victory over Fairfield at Alumni Turf on Friday (Sept. 1).
  • Dionne van Aaslum leads the team with 12 points and six goals. 
  • Lieve Schalk owns the team-high with two assists.
  • Mia Magnotta has served in goal for the entirety of all three contests.
