SHORT STORY: The Great Danes fell behind early and were unable to find a set victory despite a close third set, Saturday afternoon.
 
COACH JOSH PICKARD: "Great work by our opponents by putting pressure on us in many areas of the game. We worked some things out but were unable to turn it around."
 
KEY STATS
  • Sophomore Anna Myhal led the Great Danes with 10 digs and nine kills.
  • Junior libero Sthefany Carvalho followed with eight digs.
  • UAlbany totaled three points from blocks with Gabriella Karman leading with one solo block and one assisted block.
  • Senior Elisavet Papageorgiou owned a team-high three service aces.
  • Freshman Emilia Kuzniar started as the Great Danes' setter before tallying 16 assists.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • UAlbany opened strong with a 4-1 scoring run.
  • Shortly after, Navy took a lead the Great Danes were unable to recover from with a 10-1 scoring run.
  • The Mids added an 8-1 run before taking the first set, 25-15.
  • Despite the first point of the second set going to the Great Danes, Navy took a strong advantage with an 8-1 scoring run.
  • Mid-set, seven straight points gave the Mids a 23-7 lead.
  • UAlbany attempted a comeback with three-straight points but was unable to hold on and Navy took the win, 25-10.
  • For the third straight set, the Great Danes secured the first point.
  • After an answer from Navy, UAlbany took a 4-1 lead with three unanswered points.
  • The Great Danes continued to advance their lead with two scoring runs, including five unanswered points to make it 14-8.
  • Navy tied the score at 15 after a 7-1 scoring run.
  • A final 8-1 scoring run gave the Mids a 23-18 advantage.
  • UAlbany added three points in the close set but Navy finished the match with a 25-21 third-set score.
 
NEXT: The Great Danes will close out the UAlbany Invitational with UCF on Sunday (Aug. 27) at 1 pm.
