SHORT STORY: The Great Danes battled against the newly-minted Big 12 opponent but it was UCF taking the Sunday win.
COACH JOSH PICKARD: "It was a tough ending to the tournament today but we saw flashes of very gritty play. We are looking to extend some of those rallies against a very talented team. I'm very happy with everyone on the team. They were ready to go and each one contributed."
KEY STATS
- Sophomore Anna Myhal led the team with 10 kills.
- Junior libero Sthefany Carvalho tallied a team-high nine digs and five receptions.
- Freshman Emilia Kuzniar followed with eight digs while serving as the team's setter totaling 21 assists.
- Kuzniar and redshirt freshman Gabriella Karman notched two assisted blocks each.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The first set began back and forth before the Knights tallied an 11-2 scoring run to take a 15-5 lead.
- The Great Danes brought the point gap down to eight after a 3-1 run.
- A second scoring run from UCF secured a 24-11 advantage.
- UAlbany added three straight points but a kill from the Knights ended the first set, 25-14.
- The Great Danes opened the second set with three unanswered points.
- After UCF tied the score at four, the two teams went back and forth with ties at every single point between four and 10.
- Despite the Great Danes holding on, the Knights grabbed a 9-2 scoring run to take a 19-12 lead.
- UAlbany added three points before Central Florida closed the second set, 25-15, after four straight points.
- UCF started the third set with a 5-1 scoring run. After adding four unanswered points, the Knights held a 9-3 lead.
- With aces from Anna Myhal and Sthefany Carvalho, the Great Danes went on a scoring run to close the point gap to two, 11-9.
- UCF answered with their final scoring run of the contest to take a 17-10 advantage.
- The teams closed the match by trading points but the final run proved too much as the Knights took the set, 25-17.
