Women's Lacrosse Announces 2024 Schedule

ALBANY, N.Y. – The defending America East champion University at Albany women’s lacrosse program has announced its 16-game schedule for the 2024 regular season.  For the fourth-straight year, the Great Danes will play its home games at John Fallon Field, where they welcome seven of their 16 opponents.

The 2024 schedule features three of the four teams that advanced to the 2023 Final Four, including both teams that competed in the 2023 title game.

Our program is delighted to announce our 2024 schedule, which we believe is one of our most exciting and challenging schedules yet. The opportunity to compete against three of last year’s Final Four teams, Boston College, Northwestern, and Syracuse, as well as a prior national champion in James Madison brings a lot of value to our schedule. We look forward to welcoming preseason ranked teams like Johns Hopkins and UConn to John Fallon Field, as well as a number of other high-powered programs.
Head Coach Katie Thomson

A total of seven of UAlbany’s 2024 opponents appeared in the 2023 NCAA Tournament, three of which were conference champions last year.  Additionally, six of UAlbany’s opponents held spots in the final national media poll of 2023, including each of the top three.

On March 10, the Great Danes will head to Chicago for a showdown with reigning national champion Northwestern.  The Wildcats visited Albany last season, and feature on their roster reigning Tewaaraton Award winner Izzy Scane.  Scane led the country with 99 goals and 134 total points last season, but was held below her scoring average by the Great Danes’ defense.

The America East Conference has gained great momentum over the last several years, and we can’t wait for another competitive conference season. Our program can’t wait to host our family, friends, and fans to our games this year and continue to engage with the community.

UAlbany’s annual game against Syracuse comes immediately after their conference opener, on March 19. Syracuse, head coach Katie Thomson’s alma mater, just missed out on a trip to the 2023 national title game, falling 8-7 in the semifinal against Boston College.  The Orange held the fifth-best record in Division I last season, going 18-3 overall, and were the only team all year to defeat Northwestern.

Our staff takes a lot of pride in building the strongest non-conference schedule possible. We look forward to traveling to Northwestern to play the 2023 National Champions in Ryan Fieldhouse. Our match-up against Syracuse is always one our team looks forward to, as many players on our roster hail from the Central and Western NY regions, and they get to play in their community.
