Women's Lacrosse Announces 2023 Schedule

ALBANY, N.Y. – The University at Albany women’s lacrosse program has announced its 16-game schedule for the 2023 season.  For the third-straight year, the Great Danes will play its home games at John Fallon Field, where they will welcome seven of their 16 opponents.

The 2023 schedule features seven teams coming off NCAA Tournament appearances in 2022, five teams that were ranked in the final national media poll of 2022, including two in the top-10, and three 2022 conference champions.

The season begins on February 12 with a trip to Johns Hopkins.  The Blue Jays finished 2022 ranked 20th nationally following an appearance in the NCAA Tournament.  UAlbany will play Johns Hopkins for the first time in the program’s Division I era history.

The Great Danes’ home opener is scheduled for February 18 against Ivy League opponent Cornell, followed by a second-straight home game on February 22 against 2022 MAAC champion Fairfield.

UAlbany will play its next two on the road.  First, the team will play its second Ivy League opponent in three games at Brown on February 25, followed by the team’s annual matchup against Syracuse, with this year’s game taking place in the Carrier Dome on March 1.

The Orange finished the season ranked sixth in the country and advanced to the quarterfinal round of the 2022 NCAA Tournament.  A quick stop back home to host Colgate precedes a highlight of the Great Danes’ 2023 schedule with its trip to the West Coast.  

On March 12, UAlbany will visit Stanford, followed by a game at UC Davis on March 15.  The Great Danes hosted Stanford to open the season a year ago and fell just short on their comeback attempt from upsetting the Cardinal. Stanford ultimately won the Pac-12 last year.

Upon their return East, the Great Danes will play a third-straight road game at UConn on March 22, followed by a short reprieve at home to start America East play against Vermont.

Vermont came-from-behind to defeat UAlbany in the 2022 America East title game to earn their first conference championship and NCAA Tournament appearance.  The Great Danes jumped out to a 5-0 run in the first 10 minutes but saw the Catamounts chip away to take a 12-11 lead with two minutes to go.  One final effort from the Great Danes came up just short after the horn sounded before the ball made it into the back of the net.

On April 1, the Great Danes will visit UMass Lowell before playing each of its next two at home. The home stand begins April 7 against 2022 America East semifinal opponent UMBC, leading into another highlight of the schedule on April 8 when national power Northwestern visits John Fallon Field.

UAlbany and Northwestern have played twice before, with both matchups coming in the NCAA Tournament. The Wildcats were a 2022 national semifinalist and finished the season ranked fourth nationally.

UAlbany will visit Binghamton on April 15, one week ahead of its regular-season home finale against New Hampshire on April 22.  The Great Danes will close the regular season against first-year America East program Bryant on April 29.  The America East Tournament begins May 4 with the semifinal round, with the title game scheduled for May 6.
