Volleyball Adds Win Over NJIT

SHORT STORY: Taking three strong set victories, the Great Danes earned a four-set win over the visiting Highlanders, Sunday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The first set began with back-and-forth action until the Great Danes tallied three straight points to gain an 8-5 lead.
  • With multiple short scoring runs on each side, UAlbany extended their lead to 19-14.
  • The Highlanders closed the point gap with four unanswered points but a 6-1 scoring run led to the Great Danes first-set win.
  • UAlbany quickly jumped to a 7-3 lead in the second set.
  • After NJIT tied the score at seven, each team added three straight points for a second tie at 10.
  • Trading points, the Great Danes earned a four-point advantage, 18-14, after a three-point run.
  • UAlbany extended its lead but a 7-1 scoring run from the Highlanders tied the set at 24.
  • The two teams went back and forth until NJIT won the set, 31-29.
  • After trading the first couple of points, an 8-2 scoring run gave the Great Danes a 9-4 advantage.
  • The Highlanders put the set within two points, 11-9, before UAlbany gradually gained a five-point lead, 17-12.
  • Once again, NJIT closed the gap, 18-15, but seven unanswered points finished the set as the Great Danes took a 2-1 match lead.
  • With each team opening the fourth set with a 3-0 run, UAlbany answered with a 5-1 scoring run to take an 8-4 lead.
  • Despite NJIT coming within one point of the Great Danes, UAlbany furthered its lead with six unanswered points, 17-10.
  • The Highlanders attempted to come back but a final 8-2 scoring run, including five straight points, secured the 25-14 set win, and 3-1 match victory.
 
NEXT: The Great Danes will head on the road to face Binghamton (Oct. 27) and Bryant (Oct. 29).
