SHORT STORY: The Cougars started out strong and the Great Danes were unable to pull out a victory, Sunday.
 
KEY STATS
  • Sophomore Anna Myhal led the team with 11 kills while junior Hannah Rowe and sophomore Alexa Harris followed with nine.
  • Senior Charlotte Macken totaled a team-high 115 digs.
  • Junior Malea Stanton served as the team's main setter, grabbing 32 assists.
  • Sophomore Anissia Wong notched four blocks, including the Great Danes' lone solo block.
  • Rowe and Macken led UAlbany with two service aces each.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Great Danes started the first set with a 5-2 scoring run but the Cougars answered, quickly earning an 8-6 lead.
  • After three unanswered points from UAlbany, Chicago State owned a one-point lead, 15-14.
  • After a 9-0 scoring run, the Great Danes were unable to come back and the Cougars took the first set, 25-15.
  • Once again, UAlbany opened the set with the lead, gaining a 4-1 advantage.
  • After the teams traded points, Chicago State notched a 6-1 scoring run for an 11-8 lead.
  • Returning to back-and-forth play, the Great Danes were unable to overcome the Cougars' lead and fell 25-20 in the second set.
  • UAlbany started the third set with five unanswered points. 
  • With an additional two three-point scoring runs, the Great Danes notched a 15-7 advantage.
  • The Cougars attempted to come back with four unanswered points but UAlbany gained a 23-13 lead with five-straight points before taking the set, 25-15.
  • An early-set 5-0 scoring run gave Chicago State an 8-4 lead in the fourth set.
  • Adding to their lead, the Cougars notched six unanswered points for a 20-13 advantage.
  • The Great Danes tallied a late set 5-1 scoring run but CSU finished the set, 25-19, and the match, 3-1.
 
NEXT: The Great Danes will stay in town for an away game at crosstown rival, Siena, on Tuesday, September 27.
