SHORT STORY: The Great Danes scored first but Maine took the shootout win in Orono, Sunday.
COACH PHIL SYKES: "It was a really tough one to take today. I am super proud of our team as we played a great all around game and dominated much of the play in the second half. We were unlucky to not score three or four more goals as we created some very nice chances. We will keep our heads up and continue to grow from these experiences."

- Sophomore Floor de Ruiter scored her second goal of the season, the only Great Danes goal of the contest.
- Sophomore Alison Smisdom led UAlbany with six shots, all on goal.
- Overall, the Great Danes outshot Maine, 20-9, with a 15-4 advantage in shots on goal.
- UAlbany held a 9-6 advantage in penalty corners.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The first half saw mostly midfield play.
- Combined there were two shots in the first quarter. Floor de Ruiter tallied the lone Great Dane shot.
- Junior Julie Rodijk added two shots, including one on goal, in the second quarter but the Black Bears notched three shots, including two on goal, to take the advantage.
- The Great Danes saw more action in the circle with seven shots and three corners in the third quarter.
- de Ruiter put the first goal on the scoreboard just over five minutes into the third.
- With 0:00 on the regulation clock, Maine tied the score with a penalty stroke, earned during a penalty corner.
- After two overtime periods without a goal, the Black Bears won the game in shootouts.
NEXT: The Great Danes will return home for two home contests against Vermont and Boston College.
