Head Coach Trevor Gorman: "Very pleased with a gutsy effort on the road to take three points tonight. UMBC is a very good team and always a tough venue to play. We were strong and determined when we needed to be and kept causing them trouble as well. We look forward to a good week of training to prepare for our home match with Bryant."

How it Happened
- For roughly the first 35 minutes, UAlbany and UMBC played a game of possession. UMBC had taken the only two shots of the game to that point and had drawn the game's only corner kick. The Retrievers finished the half with four shots (two on goal) and three corner kicks, while the Great Danes managed to take two shots and draw one corner kick in the half's final 10 minutes.
- Shafique Wilson made a diving save in the 69th minute to preserve the scoreless tie and keep UMBC off the board. The Retrievers' Ryan Beacher, one of two UMBC players leading the America East with five goals this season, took an open shot from the top of the box to the top right corner of UAlbany's goal. Wilson got a hand on the shot and deflected it away from the goal, and then collected the return effort to end the threat.
- In the 85th minute, Jeff Thielmann initiated a sequence that led to the first and only goal of the game. From just behind the midfield line, Thielmann switched the field forward to Saad Faiz who broke towards the UMBC goal. After beating his defender, Faiz ripped a shot low near post, saved by UMBC goalkeeper Quantrell Jones. Domenic Baumann collected the rebound and took a shot that beat Jones, but hit the near post. The ball rebounded towards the middle of the UMBC box, where freshman Jackson Finn slipped behind the UMBC defensive line and scored on the empty net with Jones out of position.
- The Great Dane defense held on to win by the same score, 1-0, to collect their first road victory of the season. Wilson also recorded his season's first victory, in addition to his second career shutout.
Next: UAlbany hosts America East newcomer Bryant on October 1.
