SHORT STORY: The Great Danes battle but fall in both matches on day two in Pennsylvania, Saturday.
 
COACH JOSH PICKARD: "This was a tough weekend for the Great Danes. There was a lot of growth on our side of the net but there were also a lot of chances that we left out there. I'm proud of Hannah Rowe for her play in her home state. We have played a tough schedule so far this year and it's showing through our growth."
 
GAME ONE
 
SCORE: #11 Penn State 3, UAlbany 0 (25-12, 25-16, 25-10)
 
RECORDS: UAlbany 3-9, 0-0 America East | #11 Penn State 10-0, 0-0 Big Ten
 
KEY STATS

• Sophomore Alexa Harris led the offense with five kills.
• Senior Charlotte Macken owned a team-high 10 digs.
• Senior Malea Stanton (eight assists) and freshman Zosia Szczotkiewicz (nine assists) each served as the setter, tallying their respective assist totals.
• Harris, freshman Anna Myhal, and sophomore Anissia Wong each notched a block with Harris' being the lone solo block of the contest.

 
HOW IT HAPPENED

• An early 3-0 scoring run, including a kill from Noa Brach, gave UAlbany a 5-4 lead in the first set.
• The Nittany Lions quickly came back with seven unanswered points to take an 11-5 advantage.
• Three more 3-0 scoring runs and #11 Penn State took the first set, 25-12.
• PSU opened the second set with seven straight points.
• UAlbany tallied six points as the Nittany Lions made their way to a 15-6 lead.
• Notching a 4-1 scoring run, the Great Danes closed the point gap but #11 Penn State still held a seven-point lead, 19-12.
• UAlbany made a late-set three-point scoring run but the Nittany Lions closed out the set with the win, 25-16.
• Earning the first point of the third set, the Great Danes totaled three unanswered points to take a 4-2 lead.
• #11 Penn State followed with a 15-1 scoring run to gain a 17-5 advantage.
• UAlbany tallied another three unanswered points to close the point gap but the Nittany Lions finished out the set to win, 25-10, thus taking the match, 3-0.

 
GAME TWO
 
SCORE: Howard 3, UAlbany 0 (27-25, 25-14, 25-16)
 
RECORDS: UAlbany 3-10, 0-0 America East | Howard 6-6, 0-0 MEAC
 
KEY STATS

• Junior Hannah Rowe led the offense with nine kills. Alexa Harris followed with six.
• On defense, Charlotte Macken tallied a team-high 18 digs while junior Naliah Grannell led on the net with two blocks.
• Four Great Danes tallied one service ace - Malea Stanton, Zosia Szczotkiewicz, Anissia Wong, and Macken.

 
HOW IT HAPPENED

• The Great Danes started the match with three unanswered points. 
• UAlbany continued with the lead, eventually gaining a 12-8 advantage.
• After being the first to 15, the Great Danes held the lead until the Bison tallied a 3-0 scoring run to tie the score at 19.
• Howard and UAlbany traded points back-and-forth until the Bison scored two final points to take the extra-point win, 27-25.
• The Bison jumped ahead in the second set with four points.
• After Howard gained a 15-5 lead, the Great Danes were unable to overcome the point gap and the Bison won the second set, 25-14.
• Similar to the second set, Howard jumped to a quick lead, 9-4, in the third.
• With a 6-1 scoring run, the Great Danes tied the score at 10.
• The Bison took back the lead with six unanswered points. 
• Despite a late-set scoring run for three points from UAlbany, the Great Danes were unable to take the lead and Howard took the set, 25-16, and the match, 3-0.

 
NEXT: The Great Danes are set to return home to host Chicago State on Sunday, September 25 at 2 pm.
