Men's Soccer Announces 2022 Recruiting Class

ALBANY, N.Y. - University at Albany men’s soccer coach Trevor Gorman has announced the addition of 16 players ahead of the fall ’22 season.

“We are pleased to welcome this group to UAlbany and look forward to seeing their impact in the upcoming season," said Gorman.  "We feel each of these guys fits in to our culture and will selflessly strive to make themselves, and those around them, better every day.  They will integrate nicely with our returning players and we’re all motivated to function, as a program, at the highest level this fall.”

Domenic Baumann

MID | 6-0 | 180 | Bergheim, Germany (Lewis)

 

Prior to UAlbany: Competed for Lewis University; Tallied 15 goals and 13 assists; United Soccer Coaches All-Region and Scholar All-America Selection.

Gorman on Baumann: “Domenic is a powerful player who will add strength to the midfield.  His experience will fit in well with our group.”

Tiago Dias

DEF | 6-3 | 180 | Portimao, Portugal (Coffeyville)

Prior to UAlbany: Played two seasons at Coffeyville CC.

Gorman on Dias: “Tiago is an experienced defender who brings a lot of qualities to our team.  He’s comfortable on the ball but also loves the defensive battles in a match.  We look forward to seeing his impact.”

Nicolas Desjardins

MID | 5-10 | 170 | Blainville, Quebec, Canada

Prior to UAlbany: Played for AS Blainville; Former member of the Montreal Impact youth academy.

Gorman on Desjardins: “Nico is a very technical midfielder who came to our attention through our ID Camps. He’s come through some very good programs in Canada and is looking forward to this new challenge.”

Elias Ehlin

DEF | 6-0 | 170 | Kalmar, Sweden (USC Upstate)

Prior to UAlbany: Started 16 matches for USC Upstate in Fall 2021; named to the Big South All-Freshman Team in Spring 2021.

Gorman on Ehlin: “Elias is a versatile player with a very good range of passing.  He’s a strong competitor who pushes those around him to be better and will immediately bring those characteristics to our team.”

Jackson Finn

FWD | 6-3 | 180 | Woodland, Wash.

Prior to UAlbany: Member of the Portland Timbers Academy.

Gorman on Finn: “Jackson is an exciting attacking player capable of threatening behind or linking underneath.  His pressing will help us on the defensive side of the ball as well.”

Miltiadis Hadjipanayiotou

MID | 5-11 | 155 | Nicosia, Cyprus (San Diego)

Prior to UAlbany: Played 11 matches for San Diego in 2021; competed for the Cyprus U-19 National Team.

Gorman on Hadjipanayiotou: “Miltiadis is an intelligent midfielder who can control the tempo of a match with his passing and anticipation.  He comes to us with good experience from his freshman season and we’re looking forward to seeing him in the America East.”

James Knudson

GK | 6-2 | 185 | Bergen, Norway

Prior to UAlbany: Participated in the Molde SC youth system.

Gorman on Knudson: “James is a talented young goalkeeper who joined us in January.  He benefited greatly from having the spring semester here and we look forward to seeing his growth continue this fall.”

Paulo Lino

FWD | 5-11 | 160 | Sao Paulo, Brazil (Marshall)

Prior to UAlbany: Participated in 15 games for Marshall in 2021; recorded 2 goals.

Gorman on Lino: “PC is a center forward hungry to score goals.  He’s high energy and always moving off the ball.  We think he’ll be a natural fit in to our system.”

Riley Liston

Prior to UAlbany: Was a part of the ETURE Sports Academy in 2021.

Gorman on Liston: “Riley is an athletic defender with pace and strength.  He’s had great experiences in different environments and is looking forward to continuing that growth as a Great Dane.”

Ryan Palmbaum

FWD | 5-11 | 180 | Rocklin, Calif. (Northern Michigan)

Prior to UAlbany: Played in 16 matches for Northern Michigan University in 2021; recorded 13 goals and 13 assists in 43 games; United Soccer Coaches All-Midwest Region and Two Time All-Conference Selection.

Gorman on Palmbaum: “Ryan joined us in the spring semester and hit the ground running.  He’s embraced the environment and is excited for his first fall season at UAlbany.”

George Pitsillides

DEF | 5-9 | 170 | Nicosia, Cyprus (West Virginia)

Prior to UAlbany: Competed for West Virginia in 2021; former member of the Cyprus U-19 National Team.

Gorman on Pitsillides: “George is a strong fullback effective on both sides of the ball.  He was a member of a very successful WVU team last fall and is looking forward to bringing that winning mentality to UAlbany.”

Mohamed Soumah

FWD | 6-3 | 195 | New Paltz, N.Y. (Jacksonville)

Prior to UAlbany: Competed at Jacksonville University playing in 18 contests.

Gorman on Soumah: “Mo is a talented, powerful, attacking player with good experience from his time at Jacksonville.  We think his strengths will translate nicely to the America East.”

Jeff Theilmann

FWD | 6-1 | 185 | Bad Homberg, Germany (St. Francis, Pa.)

Prior to UAlbany: Participated for St Francis (Pa.); tallied three goals and assists.

Gorman on Thielmann: “Jeff is a proven attacking player capable of producing goals and assists.  He arrives hungry to achieve success and push himself to an even higher level.”

Caleb Vallance

FWD | 5-11 | 165 | Vancouver, Canada

Prior to UAlbany: Member of the Vancouver Whitecaps Academy.

Gorman on Vallance: “Caleb is a talented player in multiple positions.  He covers a lot of ground, is good on the ball, and eager to prove himself on this new platform.”

Gabriel Vargas

DEF | 5-10 | 150lbs | Brooklyn, N.Y. (Franklin Pierce)

Prior to UAlbany: Spent multiple seasons at Franklin Pierce University.

Gorman on Vargas: “Gabi is another player who joined us the spring and is ready to make an impact.  He’s a quick, technical, left sided player with great experience at one of the top Division II programs in the country.”

Max Wilhelm

DEF | 5-9 | 160 | Suess, Germany

Prior to UAlbany: Member of KSV Baunatal.

Gorman on Wilhelm: “Max is an experienced fullback capable of playing to either side.  He’s from a good environment in Germany and ready to take on the new challenge here at UAlbany.”
