GREAT DANE REWIND
- With a 9-8 America East record, the Great Danes earned the third seed in the 2021 America East Tournament.
- After beating Stanford in the quarterfinals, UAlbany prepared to upset Monmouth, who closed the season ranked in the top 25 of the nation. Both contests saw a 1-0 victory for the Great Danes.
- Holding out in the AE title game, the Great Danes fell to first-seeded Maine in shootouts.
- UAlbany's freshman Alison Smisdom was named America East Rookie of the Year and earned Rookie All-American status from Synapse Sports.
- Along with Smisdom on the conference's first team, Julie Rodijk earned second-team all-conference honors while Smisdom, Lara Behn, and Floor de Ruiter each were named All-Rookie.
- Smisdom and Rodijk rounded out the year with NFHCA All-Northeast Region honors.
- Smisdom led the team with 16 goals and 36 points while Rodijk led the defense as the sole point-earning defender with seven points (three goals, one assist). Jannelle Volk led with four defensive saves
- Overall, the Great Danes return all but four student-athletes, including 10 of 11 regular starters, and add five newcomers - Chiara Calicchia, Luisa Knapp, Makenna Lowe, Sophia Schoonmaker, and Emily Stoessel.
ABOUT NORTHEASTERN
- After beginning their season in a neutral game against the Buckeyes at Alumni Turf on Friday, August 26, the Huskies will face the Great Danes on Saturday, August 27.
- Of the 12 student-athletes who saw double-digit game action, five have returned for 2022.
- Both starting goalies will not be returning to the Huskies.
- Overall, Lauren Rowe led the team with 10 goals and 11 assists for 31 points. Mak Graves followed closely with 10 goals. Both Rowe and Graves have returned for 2022.
SERIES AGAINST THE HUSKIES
- In four contests against Northeastern, the Great Danes have yet to see a win.
- Their last meeting came as a shutout loss in 2004.
ABOUT OHIO STATE
- The Buckeyes open the season missing seven consistent field players, including their starting goalkeeper and three regular starters. They will return eight starters and 13 players who competed in double-digit contests.
- Emma Goldean and Leanna Bough return after leading the team with five goals each.
- Delaney Lawler will return her team-high three assists.
- After losing their starting goalie, the Buckeyes will look to fill the spot with a rookie or junior, who has seen 22 career contests.
SERIES AGAINST THE BUCKEYES
- Ohio State leads the all-time series, 3-2.
- The Great Danes took the last meeting, 3-1, in 2015.
UP NEXT
- The Great Danes will split the second weekend of the season, hosting Penn State (Sept. 3) before heading on the road to visit Fairfield (Sept. 4).
