Malm Signs with New York Mets

ALBANY, N.Y.  – Former University at Albany shortstop Brad Malm has signed a minor league deal with the New York Mets. Malm graduated from UAlbany this spring after spending five years with the program. He will be assigned to New York's Single-A affiliate, the St. Lucie Mets, in Port St. Lucie, Fla.

"I am so excited to begin my professional baseball career with the New York Mets," said Malm. "My family, friends, coaches and teammates have all helped me get to where I am today. I am only going to work harder from here to make everyone proud."

Malm had a historic start to his final season with the Great Danes, launching eight home runs in the team's first seven games. He finished the season with 15 in total – a UAlbany single-season record and tied for the most in the America East regular season this year.

"We are thrilled for Brad and this great opportunity he has been offered," said Head Coach Jon Mueller. "He put in a ton of work and had a monster season and career here at UAlbany."

Malm also led the conference (regular season) in total bases (131) and slugging percentage (.655) and finished in the top five in OPS (1.058), at-bats (200), runs (53), hits (68), and RBIs (49). He finished the year starting in all 47 games for UAlbany at shortstop, batting .340 at the plate, and was twice named the America East Player of the Week. The shortstop from Medford, N.Y., was named to the America East Second Team All-Conference his final season after being named to the First Team in 2021 and Second Team in 2019.
