Last Time Out
The Great Danes won their series against Binghamton this past weekend after all three games were spontaneously moved from Albany to Binghamton due to field conditions and potential inclement weather.
UAlbany took both games of Saturday's doubleheader led by two strong performances on the mound by
Ray Weber and
Cregg Scherrer. The Great Danes took an early lead in game one after bringing home three runners in the first three innings.
Johnny Marti drove in
Jason Bottari on a sac fly in the first,
John Daly hit an RBI double to score
Michael Whalen in the second and
Will Binder scored
Brad Malm on a ground out in the third. Although the Bearcats were able to tie it up in the top of the fifth with two home runs, UAlbany batters crossed home plate four times in the sixth to win the game 7-3.
The Great Danes once again held a 3-0 lead after three innings in the second game of the day. Malm and Binder both hit RBI singles and Marti hit another sac fly, driving in Malm.
Josh Salandy added a run in the sixth when he walked with the bases loaded. In the top of the eighth, the Bearcats hit a three-run home run to make it 4-3, but the Great Danes extended their lead to 6-3 in the bottom of the same inning when Bottari hit an RBI double and later scored on an error. Binghamton came back once again and tied up the game in the top of the ninth on yet another three-run shot. However, UAlbany loaded up the bases in the bottom of the final inning with no outs and came away with a 7-6 win as Whalen hit a walk-off single to score
Josh Loeffler.
On Sunday, the Great Danes dropped their series finale with Binghamton 1-7. The Bearcats scored two runs each in the first, the third and the seventh inning and added another one in the top of the ninth on an RBI single.
Carson Dunkel had the lone RBI for the Great Danes that afternoon when he hit his third home run of the year, a solo shot to right field.
