GREAT DANE REWIND
- UAlbany opened the 2022 season in Rock Hill, South Carolina at the Winthrop Eagles Tournament (Feb. 18-20) before competing in the 2022 Spring Games at Madeira Beach (Mar. 3-5).
- In South Carolina, the Great Danes went 2-3 with wins against Winthrop and Ball State and losses against Robert Morris (twice) and Youngstown State. UAlbany tallied three wins and two losses in Florida - beating MTSU, Georgia Southern, and Georgetown.
- In their last four contests, the Great Danes are 2-2. They saw two losses at Towson (3/11) before the rest of the tournament was canceled due to weather.
- UAlbany began 'doubleheader season' at CCSU on March 16. The Great Danes swept the Blue Devils with an 8-1 win for game one and a 14-4 victory in game two.
- Ten days later, UAlbany hosted Colgate for its first home contest. After the Raiders took the first game in eight innings, the Great Danes came back for a shutout victory in game two.
- Most recently, UAlbany split a doubleheader against Marist (3/30). The Great Danes took the first game in eight, 5-4, and fell in the second contest, 6-5.
AT THE PLATE
- Morgan Petty leads the team batting 23-56 for a .411 batting average and a .821 slugging percentage. The junior owns a team-high five home runs and 24 RBI. For her efforts, Petty was named the America East Player of the Week after the first week of competition.
- Maddi Petrella (.389) and Katie Falotico (.351) follow with their respective batting averages.
- Falotico and Petty are tied with 12 multi-base hits. The graduate student leads with 10 doubles while the junior has hit five balls over the fence to lead the team.
- Three Great Danes have totaled double-digit RBI - Petty has compiled 24 to lead the team while Petrella (13) and Falotico (12) follow.
IN THE FIELD
- Falotico leads the defense with 64 putouts while Lové Drumgole leads with 38 assists.
- Leading the team, Drumgole has been involved in six double-plays. Maranda Jimenez and Chloe Lewis follow with three each.
- Six different Great Danes have seen the circle.
- Briana Garrett leads with a 1.40 ERA and one shutout. Garrett pitched a complete-game shutout over Colgate (3/26) to earn America East Pitcher of the Week honors.
- Wendi Hammond has seen the most time with 52.2 innings pitched and 48 strikeouts. The junior has pitched for a 4-4 record with five complete games.
ABOUT UMBC
- The Retrievers are 15-4 on the season, with a current 13-game win streak.
- With wins against 10 different teams - Saint Joseph's, Coppin State (x2), Georgetown, Morgan State, St. John's (x2), Hofstra, Brown, Maryland, Lafayette (x3), and Quinnipiac (x2) - UMBC has fallen to Seton Hall (x2), Saint Joseph's and Georgetown.
- Logan Hawker leads the active players with a .390 batting average. Zoe Russell leads the entire team with a .417 batting average, going 8-17 from the plate.
- Five Retrievers have totaled multiple homers - Hawker (3), Anna Lonchar (3), Russell (3), Madison O'Berg (2), and Meghan Dempsey (2). Of these five, only Hawker and Lonchar are active players.
- Hawker owns a team-high 12 RBI; Sierra Pierce follows with 11.
- Kya Matter has seen the most time in the circle, pitching for 47.1 innings and four complete games. She has totaled 90 strikeouts for an 8-1 record and a 1.04 ERA.
- Courtney Coppersmith leads UMBC pitchers with a 0.26 ERA in 27.0 innings pitched. She has tallied three complete games, three saves, and 60 strikeouts.
- In the field, Lonchar leads with 99 putouts while Shanel Stott has tallied a team-high 16 assists.
SERIES AGAINST THE RETRIEVERS
- The Great Danes lead the series, 44-14.
- Most recently, UAlbany and UMBC met in their regular-season series, April 17-18, 2021. The Great Danes closed the series with two wins and one five-inning loss.
PICKED THIRD
- The Great Danes were picked to finish third in the 2022 America East Preseason Coaches' Poll.
- UAlbany tallied 27 points and no first-place votes.
- UMBC topped the poll with 35 points and five first-place votes while Stony Brook followed with 29 points and two first-place votes.
