Great Danes Visit Fairleigh Dickinson for Midweek Game

ALBANY, N.Y. – The University at Albany baseball team travels to Teaneck, New Jersey, to face the Fairleigh Dickinson Knights on Wednesday afternoon. First pitch at the Naimoli Family Baseball Complex is set for 2:00 p.m.

Leading the Pack

Last Time Out
UAlbany swept its four-game series with UMES this past weekend, winning all four games. On Friday, the Great Danes defeated the Hawks 12-4. Ray Weber struck out eight in 5.0 innings pitched, allowing just two runs. Brad Malm and John Daly both collected three RBIs. Malm homered twice, Daly once.
 
The Great Danes took both games of Saturday's doubleheader, winning 3-2 and 8-6. Anthony Germinerio pitched six scoreless innings in game one, striking out four. Jason Bottari, Ryan Ferremi and Will Feil each had one RBI for UAlbany. Seven different Great Danes recorded an RBI in game two, with Malm recording two off a two-run home run in the seventh inning to win the second game of the day.
 
The team wrapped up its four-game series on Sunday with a 13-0 win over the Hawks. Connor Eisenmann pitched 5.0 innings, striking out eight and allowing just one hit. Malm hit two home runs, his fourth and fifth against UMES, collecting four RBIs. Daly and Bottari each had three hits with one RBI. Carson Dunkel collected two RBIs.

Scouting UMES
The Knights sit at a 1-6 record after having lost all three games to CAA opponent James Madison last weekend. The Knights' lone win of the season was a 12-3 victory over Saint Peter's last Wednesday. As a team, Fairleigh Dickinson sits with a .242 batting average, with opponents batting .321 on average. The Knights have collected 55 hits and 33 runs, including four home runs, in seven games this season. FDU pitchers have allowed 7.74 earned runs on average this year, with opponents allowing an average of 4.21 earned runs.
 
Sophomore infielder TJ Werner leads the team with a .400 batting average, 10 hits, five RBIs and 11 total bases. Sophomore shortstop Juan Sosa is the second Knight with 5 RBIs. He has recorded a total of seven hits, including one home run. Senior outfielder Tom Ruscitti has homered twice so far and has collected 4 RBIs. Graduate pitcher Nick Evangelista has allowed an average of just .270 earned runs in 10.0 innings pitched. Senior pitcher Joey Kosowsky leads FDU in strikeouts with seven in 5.0 innings pitched against Saint Peter's.
 
2022 America East Preseason Poll
The UAlbany baseball team has been picked to finish fourth in the 2022 America East Coaches' Poll. The Great Danes earned 34 points in the annual poll, finishing ahead of Maine (27 points), UMass Lowell (18 points), UMBC (12 points) and Hartford (10 points). Stony Brook, 2021 regular-season champions and tournament finalist, was selected first, receiving 46 points and four first-place votes. Close behind, NJIT earned three first-place votes and a total of 40 points. Binghamton came in third with 37 points and a single first-place vote. Coaches were not permitted to vote for their own team.
 
2022 Captains
Leading the Great Danes in 2022 will be Ray Weber, Brad Malm, Will Feil, Johnny Marti, and John Daly. When asked about these selections, Head Coach Jon Mueller stated "These guys all exemplify what we're looking for in captains. They are tremendous in the classroom, they've shown great leadership qualities, and they've had an immediate and profound impact on our younger guys."
