ALBANY, N.Y. – The University at Albany baseball team will travel to SEC opponent Georgia, ranked No. 16 nationally, to open its 2022 season with a three-game series. First pitch of game one is scheduled for Friday afternoon at 2 p.m. at Foley Field in Athens, Ga.

Leading the Pack
- UAlbany returns four All-Conference Players, including America East First Team selections Johnny Marti and Brad Malm.
- Marti and Malm both started all 47 games for the Great Danes in 2021. Marti led the team with a .349 batting average, 41 RBIs, and seven home runs. Malm recorded a .345 batting average, 39 RBIs, and four home runs.
- All-Conference Second Team selection Ray Weber comes back for another season with the Great Danes. The pitcher went 7-2 with a 3.69 ERA and 46 strikeouts in 2021.
- Redshirt sophomore pitcher Anthony Germinerio, who tabbed All-Rookie honors in 2021, also returns for the upcoming season.
Last Time Out
In 2021, UAlbany went 22-23 throughout the regular season and earned the A#1 seed for the America East Championships in Stony Brook, N.Y. The Great Danes lost their first postseason game against the NJIT Highlanders, 4-5, after holding a lead until the eighth inning. The team's season came to an end following a defeat against Stony Brook the following day. In a close game, UAlbany held a 2-0 lead in the ninth inning but Stony Brook rallied three runs for a 3-2 victory.
Cregg Scherrer pitched 8.2 innings and allowed three runs on nine hits with two walks and four strikeouts.
Brad Malm went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and one walk.
Dolan Ocasal and
Josh Loeffler each went 1-for-3 with one run scored.

Scouting Georgia
The Bulldogs enter the 2022 season ranked No. 16 by
D1Baseball Top 25. In 2021, Georgia went 31-25 overall, including 13-17 in the SEC. The Bulldogs were ranked in the top 25 for 11 weeks last season and reached as high as No.5. The team's season ended after the third round of the SEC Tournament following losses against first seeded Arkansas and fifth seeded Ole Miss. Georgia returns 29 student-athletes from the 2021 campaign, including Freshman All-American and SEC All-Freshman Selection Jaden Woods, SEC All-Freshman Corey Collins, All-South Region honoree Connor Tate and 2022 Preseason All-American Jonathan Cannon. The Bulldogs won all three of their off-season exhibition games this past fall, including an 8-5 win over the Florida Gators who are currently ranked ninth in the country.

2022 America East Preseason Poll
The UAlbany baseball team has been picked to finish fourth in the 2022 America East Coaches' Poll. The Great Danes earned 34 points in the annual poll, finishing ahead of Maine (27 points), UMass Lowell (18 points), UMBC (12 points) and Hartford (10 points). Stony Brook, 2021 regular-season champions and tournament finalist, was selected first, receiving 46 points and four first-place votes. Close behind, NJIT earned three first-place votes and a total of 40 points. Binghamton came in third with 37 points and a single first-place vote. Coaches were not permitted to vote for their own team.

John Daly. When asked about this selections, Head Coach
Jon Mueller stated "These guys all exemplify what we're looking for in captains. They are tremendous in the classroom, they've shown great leadership qualities, and they've had an immediate and profound impact on our younger guys."
