Women's Basketball Hosts Colgate

ALBANY, N.Y. - The University at Albany women's basketball team will return home for a contest against Colgate.

GREAT DANE REWIND
  • Seeing their first weekend of competition since the NCAA Tournament in 2022, the Great Danes opened the season 2-0.
  • Hosting Merrimack on Friday, November 11, UAlbany defeated the Warriors, 67-53. 
  • In the annual Albany Cup, the Great Danes won for the second-straight year with a 64-57 final score over Siena on November 13.
  • Earlier this week, UAlbany traveled to Navy for a 64-50 victory on November 16.
  • Graduate student Ellen Hahne leads the team with a .524 field goal percentage and 22.0 points per game. She has added a team-high nine assists.
  • Senior Grace Heeps leads with 7.3 rebounds per game. Her 21 defensive rebounds and two blocks also serve as team highs.
  • Sophomore Freja Werth is tied with Heeps with 7.3 rebounds per game while senior Taniya Hanner tops the team with eight offensive rebounds.
  • A local of the Capital Region, sophomore Lilly Phillips leads the Great Danes with four steals.
 
ABOUT COLGATE
  • The Raiders split their opening week with a win over Cornell (11/7) and a loss at Syracuse (11/10). 
  • Earlier this week, Colgate hosted Niagara for a double-digit victory, 78-68, on November 16.
  • Taylor Golembiewski leads the offense with 17.7 points per game with a .477 field goal percentage. She also holds a team-high seven steals.
  • Jenna Paul leads on both defense (5.3 rebounds per game) and shooting from outside the arc (38.1%).
  • Madison Schiller has notched a team-high 13 assists.
  • Three Raiders have totaled two blocks - Golembiewski, Chidinma Okafor, and Tiasia McMillan.
 
SERIES AGAINST THE RAIDERS
  • The Great Danes lead the series, 9-4.
  • Most recently, UAlbany found a 60-39 victory over Colgate in Hamilton on December 5, 2022.
 
AROUND THE AMERICA EAST
  • UAlbany is the lone undefeated team in the America East Conference.
  • Binghamton follows with just one loss among four games.
  • With a 2-1 record, Bryant rounds out the top three.
  • Maine (1-1), New Hampshire (2-2), and NJIT (2-2) sit in the middle of the conference with an even .500 win rate.
  • Vermont and UMBC have tallied one win while UMass Lowell rounds out the league still looking for its first win.

WHAT'S UP, PRESEASON
  • With seven first-place votes and 59 total points, the Great Dane women's basketball team was picked to finish first in the conference in the preseason coaches' poll. Maine was just behind them with 54 points while Vermont came in third with 46 points and one first-place vote.
  • Last season's offensive and defensive leaders, respectively, Helene Haegerstrand and Kayla Cooper were named to the America East Preseason All-Conference Team.
  • UAlbany added three new players to the roster for the 2022-23 season - Taylor Moffat, Karyn Sanford, and Marie Sepp.

  • UAlbany has expanded its partnership with ESPN Radio 104.5 The Team and City Line Bar & Grill.
  • Coaches Colleen Mullen and Dwayne Killings, along with select student-athletes, will join ESPN Radio 104.5 The Team's Charlie Voelker and Dan Bahl every Monday from 6-7 pm live from City Line Bar & Grill for a weekly segment entitled 'Drive the Lane with UAlbany Hoops'.
  • Fans are invited to come out to City Line Bar & Grill to join Coach Mullen, Coach Kills, the student-athletes, and the ESPN Radio 104.5 The Team crew. 
  • Food and drink specials will be available on a weekly basis as the teams embark on their new seasons and talk hoops every Monday.
