How it Happened
  • UAlbany applied a lot of pressure early in the game, outshooting UMBC at a rate of 11-4 over the first 45 minutes.  Despite their aggressive play, UAlbany went into halftime trailing 1-0 after UMBC's Izzy Binko beat Great Dane goalkeeper Megan Hart top-shelf in the 42nd minute just before the break.
  • Marisa Tava drew the UMBC defense before passing left to Sahara Zingano.  Zingano's shot was blocked but she recovered and beat Retrievers' goalkeeper Morgan McGruder to the loose ball and her second attempt found the back of the net.
  • Zingano nearly had her second goal of the game, in the 69th minute.  She maneuvered in the UMBC box to the left and ripped a clean shot that bounced off the crossbar.  The rebound landed at the feet of Joanna Van Royen, who's shot from deep fell into the arms of the UMBC goalkeeper.
  • Tava scored to put UAlbany up 2-1 in the 73rd minute.  Tava settled the ball in the middle of the field and launched a shot from nearly 35 yards out over McGruder's head and into the back of the net.
  • In the 77th minute, Emily Jozak received a through ball at the top of the UMBC box from Zingano.  Jozak split three defenders, but her shot was directly at McGruder.
  • UAlbany held on to win 2-1, securing the comeback victory on the road and earning three more points in the America East standings.  The Great Danes finished the game outshooting the Retrievers 26-8 overall.
Next: UAlbany plays its next three at home, starting Thursday, October 13 against Binghamton.
