SHORT STORY: The Great Danes fell to Stanford in a one-goal game, Friday afternoon.
COACH PHIL SYKES: "I thought we were in a good place to take advantage of this conference game but it was sort of a flat effort today. We created a bit of energy late, but it was a little too late. We are hoping to learn from the lessons today and get better down the road."
KEY STATS
- Sophomore Alison Smisdom led UAlbany with seven shots, followed by junior Chiara Calicchia and graduate student Luisa Knapp with two each.
- UAlbany outshot Stanford, 13-10, with a 7-5 advantage in shots on goal.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The first quarter saw mostly midfield play with Stanford recording the only two shots.
- The Cardinal scored what proved to be the lone goal of the contest in the second quarter.
- The Great Danes outshot Stanford, 5-4, in the first half.
- In the third period, UAlbany put pressure on Stanford putting three of their five shots on target but couldn't find the back of the net.
- The Cardinal was able to hold off the Great Danes in a heart-racing fourth quarter to win the match, 1-0.
NEXT: The Great Danes will host another game this weekend against UC Davis on Sunday, October 9.
