SHORT STORY: Down 1-0, the Great Danes came from behind to secure their third conference win of the season, Sunday afternoon.
COACH PHIL SYKES: "It's the time of the year when you get a few injuries - the bench is a little thinner, things become tougher, and you are dealing with adversity. The last few games I think we played fine - scoring goals can be tough. I am so proud of our girls for keeping our structure and finishing on a nice goal at the end."
KEY STATS
- Freshman Sophia Schoonmaker scored her 5th goal of her career.
- Junior Charlotte Triggs notched the game-winning goal.
- Sophomore Alison Smisdom led with six shots, followed by four players with three each.
- UAlbany outshot UC Davis, 20-2, and held the Aggies to zero shots in the second half.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Great Danes controlled the first quarter, outshooting the Aggies, 4-1.
- UC Davis struck first scoring with six minutes remaining in the second quarter.
- With only 36 seconds remaining in the half, UAlbany equalized with a goal from Schoonmaker. Graduate student Elaina Burchell passed from the bottom of the circle to the top to lead Schoonmaker into her goal.
- UAlbany dominated the second half as the Aggies failed to attempt a shot.
- Junior Charlotte Triggs gave the Great Danes the lead, tipping Smisdom's shot over the goalie, with just under seven minutes left in the final quarter.
NEXT: The Great Danes will close out a five-game home streak on Friday, October 14 against UMass Lowell.
