New Hampshire Bound, #22 Field Hockey Readies for Final Regular-Season Road Game

ALBANY, N.Y. - The #22 UAlbany field hockey team is on the road to New Hampshire for their final away game before the America East Tournament.

GREAT DANE REWIND 
  • Seeing its third week in the top 25, UAlbany is ranked 22nd in the NFHCA/Penn Monto Division I National Poll. The Great Danes entered the top 25 after two double-overtime victories against Vermont (9/30) and #16 Boston College (10/2).
  • UAlbany opened the season with an explosive 5-2 victory over Northeastern. It was the Great Danes' first win in the all-time series against the Huskies.
  • Facing two nationally-ranked teams - #22 Ohio State (8/28) and #11 Penn State (9/3), UAlbany saw their first two losses.
  • The Great Danes won five-straight games against Fairfield (9/4), Colgate (9/9), Cornell (9/11), Yale (9/18), and California (9/23). 
  • Seeing five games in the conference season, UAlbany holds wins over California, Vermont, and UC Davis (10/9) with losses to Maine (9/25) and Stanford (10/7).
  • The Great Danes tallied their fourth conference win over UMass Lowell (10/14), before taking down #18 UMass (10/16) in a 2-1 double overtime victory. 
  • Sophomore Alison Smisdom leads the team with 13 goals, six assists, and 32 points.
  • Graduate student Luisa Knapp follows with 17 points from six goals and five assists.
  • With seven assists, sophomore Blanca Orsola leads the team.
  • On defense, Smisdom has a team-high three defensive saves.
  • Senior goalie Hannah Mangan has started thirteen games. In 859:35 minutes, she owns a 1.26 goals against average and a .743 save percentage.

  • Three Great Danes hold positions in the top-40 of the national stats leaders:
    • Alison Smisdom
      • 10th - 0.87 goals per game
      • T-10th - 2.13 points per game
      • T-13th - 3 defensive saves
    • Hannah Mangan
      • T-12th - .769 win-loss percentage
      • 18th - 1.26 goals against average
      • 26th - .743 save percentage
    • Blanca Orolsa
      • T-36th - 0.50 assists per game
 
ABOUT NEW HAMPSHIRE 
  • In fourteen games, the Wildcats own a record of 7-7 overall and 2-3 in the America East.
  • New Hampshire opened its season winning the first three games - Quinnipiac (8/26), Boston College (8/28) and Providence (9/2). Three losses followed - #25 UMass (9/4), America (9/9), and #3 Maryland (9/11) - making the Wildcats' record 3-3.
  • Starting conference play 0-2, New Hampshire lost to Maine (9/23) and UMass Lowell (9/25).   
  • The Wildcats tallied its first conference win when they beat Bryant (9/30) in a 5-0 shutout. 
  • New Hampshire went on to win their next two against Dartmouth (10/2) and California (10/9), before suffering an overtime loss to Vermont (10/14). 
  • Most recently, the Wildcats' earned a dominant 11-1 win over Merrimack (10/16).
  • Tasmin Cookman leads the team with 13 goals and 10 assists for a total of 36 points.
  • Nicole Poulakis follows with 10 goals and six assists.
  • Jemma Woods has stood in net for 787:29 minutes, earning a 2.51 goals against average and owns a .738 save percentage. 
 
SERIES AGAINST THE WILDCATS  
  • UAlbany leads the all-time series, 17-13.
  • In the 2021 matchup, the Great Danes beat the Wildcats, 2-1. Floor de Ruiter scored the opening goal and Alison Smisdom scored in the fourth quarter, in what proved to be the game-winning goal.

AROUND THE AMERICA EAST 
  • Maine leads the America East with an undefeated 5-0 record and are the first to clinch a place in the AE Championship Tournament. 
  • Following in a three-way tie for second sits UAlbany, UMass Lowell, and Vermont - each with a 4-2 record. 
  • Stanford and California have tallied three wins and three losses in conference play.  
  • New Hampshire sits just below .500 with a 2-3 record.
  • UC Davis (1-5) and Bryant (0-6) round out the conference.
