  • UAlbany outshot Colgate 10-4 in the second half

Head Coach Trevor Gorman: "It was a tale of two halves tonight.  The first we were timid and allowed Colgate to dictate play.  The second, we showed better and performed more as we're capable.  The players did well to come from behind and had chances to win it late.  We'll be ready for the big matches ahead."

"It's always special to honor players competing in their final season.  These guys have all had different paths to get her but are united as proud Great Danes.  We're fortunate to have had them all."

How it Happened
  • On Tuesday, the UAlbany men's soccer team honored the seven members of its 2022 senior class with a short pregame ceremony: Domenic Baumann, Vinicius Giannaccini, Giuliano Lucca, Pantelis Panteli, Sam Philip, Neophytos Scottis, and Julian Terris.
  • UAlbany pressed its advantage early from the opening kickoff, earning three corner kicks in the first seven minutes and taking their first shot in the fifth minute.  Colgate did not manage its first shot until the 29th minute, and did not earn a corner kick in the first half.
  • Colgate struck first, in the 36th minute.  The Raiders drew a foul deep in UAlbany territory along the right sideline. Chris Noriega took the free kick from the shallow angle and his attempt on goal ricocheted off the far post and into the back of the net to put Colgate up 1-0.
  • Colgate almost scored again in the 44th minute, when Daniel Brennecke's header skipped off the crossbar before the UAlbany defense successfully cleared the ball.  The Raiders, despite their slow start, finished the first half with seven shots in the final 16 minutes of the first period.
  • UAlbany notched the equalizer in the 71st minute.  The Great Danes drew their fourth and fifth corner kicks of the night on back-to-back plays.  On the first, Domenic Baumann's shot in the box was blocked by the Colgate defense and fell out of bounds on the baseline.  On the ensuing corner, Giuliano Lucca found Tiago Dias on the far side of the box.  Dias headed the ball downwards and back into the middle of the field towards Scottis, who took an attempt on goal and beat Colgate keeper Andrew Cook low and left to tie the game at one.
  • Both teams created chances late in the game to break the tie.  In the 87th minute, Lucca flicked the ball to himself and ripped a volley low and center towards Cook who dived on the attempt.  One minute later, Colgate drew a free kick, from which Noriega's attempt on goal missed just over the crossbar.
  • The game ended in a 1-1 draw.  UAlbany rallied in the second half to outshoot Colgate 10-4, ultimately equaling the Raiders' 11 total shots.  Scottis' goal was his first of the season and second of his UAlbany career.
