Head Coach Trevor Gorman: "Definitely a frustrating result tonight. I thought we started well and controlled the game. The red card changes a game like that. It's sometimes harder to play up a man because there's less available space on the field. We also know that when a red card happens early there's usually a counter action to come, and the penalty kick was that action. It's unfortunate the way it played out for us. Credit to Army for a resilient performance in that circumstance. We push on to a busy stretch of games ahead."

How it Happened
- On Tuesday, the UAlbany men's soccer program began its longest home stand of the season, three games, against Army West Point, their penultimate non-conference opponent of the regular season. It was the first meeting between the two New York programs since 2004.
- In the 26th minute, Army West Point's Jack Meyer attempted a hard slide tackle against UAlbany's Lucas Watt. The ensuing collision between the players resulted in a straight red card for Meyer, and the Black Knights continued for the remainder of the game with 10 players on the field.
- The first half ended in a scoreless tie, bringing UAlbany's streak of shutout periods to seven. The Great Danes had doubled-up the Black Knights in the first half in shots taken, 6-3, and had controlled a total of 60% of the first-half possession.
- The Black Knights drew a foul in the UAlbany box in the 66th minute. Sam Epitime, who drew the foul, stepped up to take the ensuing penalty kick, and converted by beating UAlbany goalkeeper Shafique Wilson low and to Wilson's right, giving the Black Knights a 1-0 lead. The goal ended the Great Danes' shutout streak dating back to their last goal allowed, in the 86th minute at Rhode Island on September 20.
- UAlbany generated two scoring opportunities in the 73rd and 76th minutes that just came up short. First, Sam Philip played the ball low across the mouth of the Army West Point goal. Jeff Thielmann settled the ball on the far side of the net and took a shot nearly from the baseline, deflected out of bounds by a Black Knights defender. Next, Giuliano Lucca received a serve off a free kick, settled, and volleyed from the top of the arc just over the crossbar.Â
- Lucca had another solid attempt on goal in the 86th minute, but his shot from the top left corner of the box missed just wide of the near post. The Black Knights would ultimately hold on to win by the final score of 1-0.
- UAlbany's aggressive play in the second half resulted in a 7-0 advantage in corner kicks and a 7-3 advantage in shots taken. For the full game, UAlbany controlled 61% of possession.
Next: UAlbany hosts defending America East regular-season champion New Hampshire on October 14.
