Field Hockey Heads to Ithaca

ALBANY, N.Y. - The University at Albany field hockey team heads on the road for its first full weekend of away games.
 
Masks are required for all fans who are not engaging in social distancing.

GREAT DANE REWIND
  • The Great Danes opened the season with a 5-1 win over Colgate (8/27) before falling 2-1 against Fairfield (8/29).
  • UAlbany beat Wagner (9/3), 4-1, for its first road game of the season but followed it up with three losses to UMass (9/5), No. 9 Penn State (9/10), and Columbia (9/12).
  • Senior Robyn Murray scored the first goal of the season on August 27.
  • Alison Smisdom leads the team with 15 points from six goals and three assists. The freshman scored her first career hat trick at Wagner and has earned at least one point in all but one game on the season.
  • Sophomore Lara Mortz followed with two goals and three assists for seven points while senior Elaina Burchell is a close third with two goals and two assists for six points. 
  • The Smisdom-Mortz duo has combined for four goals with Smisdom scoring three and Mortz tallying the fourth.
  • Half of the field players (nine student-athletes) have contributed at least one point, with seven different goal scorers).
  • In net, freshman Lara Behn leads the goalies with a .667 save percentage and a 2.04 goals against average in 323:55. She has seen all but 30 minutes in goal.
  • The Great Danes have totaled 92 shots and 42 penalty corners in six games.
 
ABOUT CORNELL
  • The Big Red opened the season with two wins at home against Wagner, 2-0, (9/10) and Colgate, 3-1, (9/12). 
  • Junior Caroline Ramsey leads the team with two goals and two assists.
  • Junior Natalie Stone closely follows with one goal and two assists.
  • In goal, Aerin Park leads with 105 minutes. The junior has not allowed one goal past her. 
 
SERIES AGAINST THE BIG RED  
ABOUT NO. 1 MICHIGAN
  • The Wolverines opened their season with a 3-2 win over then-No. 1 UNC (8/27). 
  • Michigan has not allowed a goal since, scoring 22 goals against then-No. 11 Wake Forest (2-0, 8/29), Central Michigan (8-0, 9/5), and Ball State (12-0, 9/10). 
  • Sofia Southam leads the team with seven goals for 14 points.
  • Tina D'Anjolell follows with four goals and one assist for nine points.
  • Of the Wolverines' 24 field players, 16 have tallied at least one point on the season.
  • Thirteen different student-athletes have scored at least one goal.
 
SERIES AGAINST THE WOLVERINES
  • Michigan holds a 2-1 lead over the Great Danes in the all-time series.
  • UAlbany last faced the Wolverines in a 2-1 loss in overtime in 2012. 
  • The Great Danes' sole win comes from a 3-2 game in 2008.
 
AROUND THE AMERICA EAST
  • Monmouth rose in the latest NFHCA poll from number 22 to number 20. 
  • With one weekend left before conference season, UMass Lowell leads the America East with three wins and one loss. 
  • Vermont and Monmouth follow tied with a .667 win percentage (4-2 records).
  • California and UC Davis round out the AE teams with winning records (3-2).
  • Stanford (1-2), UAlbany (2-4), New Hampshire (1-4), and Maine (1-5) round out the conference.
