Head Coach Trevor Gorman: "It was certainly an exciting way to win a game tonight.  We left it very late, but the guys battled right to the end and found that moment to win the game.  Lafayette are a very difficult team to play against and we had to work hard to deal with their strengths.  Hopefully it keeps us moving in a good direction into next week."

How it Happened
  • Lafayette drew a corner kick in the 13th minute, and the service into the box was kicked out away from the goal mouth.  Lafayette captain Andrew Venezia collected the loose ball and ripped a shot from 25 yards to the top right corner.  Shafique Wilson, making his first start in goal for UAlbany, dived to his left and knocked the ball away to save a goal.
  • In the 22nd minute, Bjarki Leosson had his shot in the Lafayette box blocked.  The rebound fell to Austin DaSilva, who saw his shot blocked away from the Lafayette goalkeeper but off the post and away.
  • Venezia pulled the trigger from distance yet again in the 52nd minute, with this shot missing just wide left, from deeper than his attempt in the first half.  And in the 61st, Hale Lombard found himself with an opening near the penalty spot, pushing his attempt just wide left also.
  • UAlbany broke through in the 69th minute when Andrew Weiner cut near post behind the defense on a draw from the right and just missed his shot wide of the post.
  • UAlbany mounted a counterattack in the final 15 seconds of regulation.  Adam Aoumaich received the ball on the left side and played it in to Giuliano Lucca in the middle of the Lafayette box.  Lucca aimed his shot right, just outside the reach of Lafayette goalkeeper Alex Sutton.  Sutton dived to his left and managed to get his fingers on Lucca's shot, but it sailed past Sutton and into the side netting with three seconds remaining on the clock.
  • UAlbany has now won each of its last three games, all by scores of 1-0.  Lucca is the first Great Dane to score a goal this season besides Haflidi Sigurdarson.
Next: UAlbany visits Hofstra on September 14.
