Head Coach Trevor Gorman: "Tonight isn't the kind of result or performance that we're happy with.  We were slow to start against a hungry, mature, and dangerous Hofstra team and they punished us.  We were shown the importance of the intensity and commitment necessary to win a match.  We have a great opportunity to learn from it ahead of our conference opener against a top-10 nationally-ranked opponent on Saturday."

How it Happened
  • Hofstra struck first in the 11th minute, when Storm Strongin and Stefon Mason set up a serve to Ryan Charmichael, who redirected the serve with a header past UAlbany goalkeeper Carlos Tofern and into the bottom left corner of the net to give the Pride a 1-0 lead.
  • Less than 10 minutes later, in the 20th, Hofstra scored again, when Hendrik Hebbeker and Pierce Infuso set up Matthew Vowinkel, doubling the Pride's lead.
  • Hofstra outshot UAlbany 7-2 in the first half, with Tofern recorded three saves against the Pride's offense.
  • The second half played out largely the same.  Hofstra scored early, in the 50th, with Vowinkel recording his second goal of the game.  The Pride scored their fourth and final goal of the night in the 54th, when Vowinkel set up Hebbeker.
  • In the 60th minute, Tofern made a jumping, diving save on a high shot, preventing Hofstra from further extending their lead.  The Pride ultimately outshot UAlbany 14-5 overall, and drew 10 corner kicks to UAlbany's four, including an 8-1 advantage after halftime.
Next: UAlbany opens its 2021 America East schedule on Saturday at three-time defending conference champion #9 New Hampshire.
