Head Coach Trevor Gorman: "Tough result and tough game tonight.  We know when we schedule top programs like St. John's, they will push us to play at the highest level.  We want to be exposed to that and to reach that level ourselves.  Tonight, we were punished for mistakes and not given anything easy.  There are other teams of this level ahead on our schedule and our goal is to push every day to improve for the challenge."

How it Happened
  • In the 18th and 19th minutes, UAlbany goalkeeper Carlos Tofern made two point-blank saves to keep the game tied at zero.  First, he deflected a shot from Einar Lye over the crossbar, and shortly after made a diving kick save against Micaah Garnette who found himself free and clear in the UAlbany box after a serve in from the left side.
  • St. John's took advantage of a chaotic play deep in the UAlbany box on a shallow draw to Brandon Knapp, who pushed the ball past a diving Tofern to put the Red Storm up 1-0 in the 25th minute.
  • The Red Storm struck again just before halftime, when Lucas Bartlett sneaked a shot underneath a diving Tofern to take a 2-0 lead.  St. John's outshot UAlbany 8-1 in the first half.
  • In the 52nd minute, Wesley Leggett beat Tofern near post from close to put St. John's up 3-0.
  • Tofern made another big save, diving into the top left corner, in the 60th minute, preventing St. John's from extending their lead.  Later, in the 72nd, Alex Bourgeois backed up Tofern, preventing a score in transition for St. John's.
  • St. John's went on to win by the same score, 3-0.  The Red Storm outshot UAlbany 17-4 overall, and drew 11 corner kicks to UAlbany's one.
