Key Stats

  • The teams combined for 17 corner kicks
Head Coach Leigh Howard: "Today's game was a tale of two halves.  We came out flat against a team that looked like they were going to fight for every moment out there, and Cornell took advantage of that.  In the second half, we were more tenacious, more accountable, and more confident with the ball, but playing that way only in segments of the game is not going to be enough against any team we face this season.  We need to continue to strive for more, because the rest of our non-conference schedule doesn't get any easier."

How it Happened
  • Sophia Eifler kicked off proceedings early, scoring in the ninth minute off a serve from Olivia Piraino.  It was Eifler's first goal of the season and third of her career.
  • Cornell pulled even in the 17th minute when Peyton Nichols found the back of the net, tying the game at one.  Ten minutes later, in the 27th minute, Cornell took the lead off a goal from Ava Laden.
  • Cornell maintained their lead until the 71st minute when Jasmine Colbert took on the Big Red defense on her own and ripped a shot from deep past Cornell's diving goalkeeper to tie the game a two.
  • With the score tied at two after 90 minutes, the game went into overtime.  It was UAlbany's first overtime match since defeating UMass Lowell in the 102nd minute on October 20, 2019.
  • UAlbany's defense locked down and did not allow Cornell to score again after the 27th minute.  UAlbany goalkeeper Sophia Chen finished with four saves in the game, and was untested following her final save in the 62nd minute.
  • The game ended in a 2-2 draw, UAlbany's first tie since October 3, 2019 against Binghamton.  Despite facing a 7-3 shot deficit in the first half, UAlbany outshot Cornell 6-3 following the halftime break.
Next: UAlbany's three-game road trip ends on Wednesday, September 4 at Quinnipiac.
