GREAT DANE REWIND
- The UAlbany field hockey team closed the spring season (2020 season played in the fall) with an even five wins and five losses.
- The Great Danes opened the conference season with a 1-0 win over #18 New Hampshire before closing out the season with four conference wins.
- Sophomore Lara Mortz returns after leading the team in the spring with eight points from two goals and four assists.
- Senior Robyn Murray brings her team-leading three goals tally back for another year.
- Murray and Mortz return with an offense that scored eight of last season's 13 goals. Sophomore Charlotte Triggs, senior Elaina Burchell, and junior Julie Rodijk round out the team's goal scorers from the spring.
- Rodijk led the team's defense with 418 minutes on the field.
- Following the conclusion of the spring season, four Great Danes earned America East accolades:
- Rodijk, Triggs, and MacCullum went on to garner All-Northeast Region honors.
ABOUT COLGATE
- The Raiders finished the shortened spring season with a 2-3 record.
- Colgate's leading scorer, Taylor Casamussa, returns for a fifth year with the team. She returns with two straight first team all-conference honors.
- Senior goalkeeper, Anna Unger, returns for her senior season after holding on to a .833 save percentage.
- The Raiders open the season with five newcomers.
SERIES AGAINST COLGATE
- The Great Danes hold a 9-2 lead over the Raiders.
- Most recently, UAlbany beat Colgate, 4-0, on the road. Current Volunteer Assistant Coach, Dana Bozek, earned a hat trick and assisted in the fourth goal. Junior Lillian Hickey scored the fourth goal with Kelsey McCrudden assisting all four goals.
ABOUT FAIRFIELD
- Fairfield will travel to Albany after opening the season against Saint Joseph's on Friday, August 27.
- The Stags finished the spring season with five wins and two losses, including a win over Sacred Heart that went into double overtime.
- Fairfield's points leader, Julianna Kratz, returns for her junior season after scoring four goals and assisting one for a total of nine points.
- The Stags also return their starting goalkeeper, Zoe Rosen, who finished the shortened season with a .826 save percentage from 19 saves with three shutouts.
SERIES AGAINST FAIRFIELD
- The Great Danes hold a 10-1 lead over the Stags.
- Most recently, the Stags took their first win in the series at the 2020-21 season-opening game.
- UAlbany last played Fairfield for an 8-2 win in 2017.
AROUND THE AMERICA EAST
- All eight America East schools are scheduled to play their season openers on Friday. Monmouth tops the preseason coaches' poll for the second straight year after winning a share of the regular season title in each of their two seasons in the league. With a very small margin, Maine follows the Hawks with just one less point.
