Coach Mueller:Â "We came out with some energy early offensively but give credit to CCSU, their bullpen settled in during the middle of the game. We pitched from behind in the count all afternoon and that caused heavy damage on the scoreboard. We have two more opportunities this week to continue to learn about ourselves."
How it Happened:
- The Great Danes got to work early, having four runs cross the plate in the first inning. Marc Wangenstein drew a walk with the bases loaded and scored first. Johnny Marti reached on a fielder's choice and collected an RBI when Jason Bottari scored. John Daly singled and Brad Malm scored the Great Danes' third run. The final run of the inning came off a throwing error from CCSU that scored Marti.Â
- The Blue Devils fired right back and scored three runs in the bottom of the first off a homer from Dave Matthews.Â
- Marti hit a sac fly to right in the second to increase UAlbany's lead to two in the second.Â
- CCSU took a one-run lead after a strong fourth inning when they scored three runs on four hits to put the Blue Devils up 6-5.Â
- CCSU increased the lead to 10-5 in the sixth inning off of four hits, with one error from UAlbany. The Blue Devils tacked on five more runs in the seventh and took a 15-5 lead.Â
- Johnny Marti ended his strong day with a solo homerun in the ninth, but CCSU already sealed its 15-6 victory over UAlbany.Â
