Leading the Pack

  • The Great Danes picked up their first win of the season a week ago at home against CAA foe New Hampshire, ending a skid that spanned back to the 2021 spring season when the team won against the Wildcats in Durham.
  • Karl Mofor was handed the ball a UAlbany record 45 times in the win, running for 222 yards and two TDs. He was named the CAA Offensive Player and the College Sports Madness CAA Player of the Week for his efforts.
  • Turnovers were key in the Great Danes’ win over UNH – intercepting the ball three times and recovering a fumble. AJ Mistler, Isaac Duffy, and Ben Howe-Jones all recorded an INT in the game, with the UNH fumble forced by Joe Casale and recovered by Ibn Foster.
  • Jackson Ambush leads the team with 81 tackles, 47 solo. He has four quarterback hits, one forced fumble, and one fumble recovery.
  • Jared Verse’s 7.5 sacks on the year are third in the CAA behind W&M’s Nate Lynn (10.5) and Richmond’s Darius Reynolds (8).
  • After last week’s performance, Karl Mofor now sits second in the conference with 89.8 yards per game on the ground and ranks first with 199 attempts. He has seven rushing TDs, ranking third in the CAA.

Scouting Morgan State

The Bears are coming off of their first win of the season, taking down Delaware State 20-14 at home. The win was their ninth straight when facing the Hornets, dating all the way back to 2010. Tyrone Wheatley is wrapping up his third season at the helm of the program (only his second on the sideline due to the COVID-19 pandemic). Graduate quarterback Neil Boudreau will most likely get the start for Morgan State, having previously transferred from San Diego State. This year, he has thrown for 1222 yards with yards with eight TDs and 13 INTs, completing 120 passes on 231 attempts. Jabriel Johnson leads the team in rushing with 49 yards per game and Wesley Wolfolk leads the receiving corps with 33.78 yards per game and four TDs. On defense, Lawrence Richardson leads with 62 tackles (35 solo) and Elijah Williams leads with four sacks.

Last Time Against Morgan State

The Great Danes lead the all-time series against Morgan State 2-0, having last played in 2018. In that game, former quarterback Vincent Testaverde threw for 310 yards and a pair of TDs. Ethan Stark hit a booming FG from 51 yards out, and wideout Dev Holmes picked up 238 receiving yards. Current linebacker Danny Damico not only made his first career start in the game, but led the defense with 16 tackles. Also a current Great Dane, LJ Wesneski picked up a 15-yard receiving TD in the win. In 2017, UAlbany picked up a 26-0 victory against the Bears on the road.

Playing in front of the fans at Casey Stadium the past four years has been nothing short of a movie. All of it will be dearly missed, especially walking through the smoke down the purple path!
