SHORT STORY: The scoring started during the second half when the Great Danes tallied two goals before taking the 2-1 win, Friday afternoon.

KEY STATS

• For the fifth time this season, each goal scored by a Great Dane was off a freshman's stick.
• Alison Smisdom tallied her ninth goal of the season to start the game's scoring.
• Floor de Ruiter scored the second goal of her career and the eventual game-winning goal with a diving tip.
• Sophomore Jannelle Volk completed her third defensive save to stop a Cardinal goal in the first quarter.

 
HOW IT HAPPENED

• The game remained in the midfield for much of the first half. The Great Danes outshot the Cardinal, 4-3, in the first quarter with Stanford tallying the only two shots in the second quarter. 
• After earning a penalty stroke as a team, freshman Alison Smisdom made the successful attempt for the Great Danes' first goal with 9:19 on the clock.
• Six minutes later, freshman Floor de Ruiter tipped in a shot from sophomore Charlotte Triggs to add to UAlbany's lead.
• The Cardinals scored a late-game goal in the fourth quarter.
• Holding off Stanford's final offensive advances, the Great Danes closed the contest with a 2-1 win.

 
NEXT: The Great Danes continue their home slate, hosting New Hampshire on Sunday, October 10.
