Field Hockey Hosts Stanford, New Hampshire

ALBANY, N.Y. - The University at Albany field hockey team is set to host another game-filled weekend against Stanford and New Hampshire.
 
Masks are required for all fans not fully vaccinated.

GREAT DANE REWIND
  • The Great Danes opened the season with a 5-1 win over Colgate (8/27) before falling 2-1 against Fairfield (8/29).
  • UAlbany beat Wagner (9/3), 4-1, for its first road game of the season but followed it up with three losses to UMass (9/5), No. 9 Penn State (9/10), and Columbia (9/12). During the final weekend of pre-conference games, the Great Danes earned a victory over Cornell (9/17) and a loss against No. 1 Michigan (9/18).
  • To open America East play, UAlbany bested Vermont in a 3-2 overtime win on September 26.
  • Senior Robyn Murray scored the first goal of the season on August 27.
  • After scoring the game-winning goal against Vermont, freshman Alison Smisdom was named the America East Rookie of the Week on September 28.
  • Smisdom leads the team with 20 points from eight goals and four assists. The freshman scored her first career hat trick at Wagner.
  • Senior Elaina Burchell follows, scoring her third goal of the season against Vermont, totaling 8 points, with three goals and two assists.
  • Half of the field players (nine student-athletes) have contributed at least one point, with eight different goal scorers.
  • In net, freshman Lara Behn leads the goalies with a .704 save percentage and a 2.00 goals against average in 478:55.
  • The Great Danes have totaled 141 shots and 80 penalty corners in 11 games.
 
ABOUT STANFORD
  • To open the season the Cardinals fell to California (1-0, 8/27), playing without a goalkeeper.
  • Stanford rallied against No. 10 Liberty (8/30), eventually falling, 5-1.
  • The Cardinals continued to play without a goalkeeper against Dartmouth (9/6), winning 4-1.
  • Two of four Stanford goals against the Big Green came from junior Lynn Vanderstichele.
  • Stanford began America East play on the road with a 1-0 win against Vermont (9/24).
  • Scoring early in the first quarter, the Cardinals fell against Maine (9/26) after the Black Bears came back to win, 3-2. This was Stanford's first conference loss.
  • Stanford returned home to play UC Davis (10/1), winning 3-1.
  • Haley Mossmer leads the Cardinals with 14 points from seven goals. She scored the game-winning goal against Vermont and UC Davis. Mossmer owns a five-game scoring streak, tallying a goal in all games this season but the first.
  • The Cardinals have tallied 11 goals this season with a .635 shot on goal percentage.
  • Playing the entirety of the season without a goalkeeper on the roster, Stanford has accumulated 10 saves in 6 games. 
 
SERIES AGAINST THE CARDINALS
  • Stanford holds a 6-2 lead over UAlbany in the all-time series.
  • Their last meeting resulted in a 3-2 overtime loss at home to close the 2020 season in the spring of 2021. Prior to the Cardinals' game-winning goal, Elaina Burchell scored to tie the game and bring it to overtime.
  • Former Great Danes, Katie MacCallum and Cosima Rocktaeschel scored for UAlbany.
  • UAlbany last beat the Cardinals, 1-0, on the road in 2014.. 
 
ABOUT NEW HAMPSHIRE
  • The Wildcats opened their season beating Ohio University, 1-0 (8/28), but followed with four-straight losses - No. 5 Louisville (8/29), Boston U. (9/3), No. 3 Iowa (9/4), and Providence College (9/10).
  • New Hampshire clinched a 2-1 overtime win against Bryant (9/17) to break the losing streak.
  • The Wildcats followed their overtime with two three-straight losses - No. 3 Boston College (9/19), California (9/24), and UC Davis (9/26) - including the first two games of America East play.
  • Most recently, New Hampshire tallied its first conference win at UMass Lowell (10/1) before falling at No. 12 Harvard (10/3).
  • Sophomore Lindsey Lee scored two goals to lead UNH to a victory against UMass Lowell. 
  • Lindsay Lee leads the Wildcats with nine points from three goals and three assists.
  • Bloem van den Brekel follows closely with eight points from a team-high four goals.
  • Jemma Woods has been in goal for all 687:46 of play. She owns a .701 save percentage and a 2.27 goals against average with 61 saves and 26 goals against.
 
SERIES AGAINST THE WILDCATS
  • UAlbany holds a 16-13 lead over New Hampshire in the all-time series.
  • Their last meeting resulted in a 1-0 victory at New Hampshire in the spring of 2021. Former Great Dane Hanna Zarrilli scored the lone goal, unassisted.
 
AROUND THE AMERICA EAST
  • Maine leads the America East with a 3-0 record, followed closely by California at 2-0. The two will face off on October 8 in Orono, Maine.
  • Stanford currently sits third in the conference with a 2-1 record.
  • UAlbany in fourth with a 1-1 record.
  • UMass Lowell, UC Davis, New Hampshire and Vermont opened the conference season 1-2.
  • Monmouth is still looking for an America East win.
